As the other comments, I experienced this as the foundations of a much bigger project, which I will gladly play in the future as you work more on it. I love these types of games. Hope to watch you and this game grow together as game developer and game.
I don't have much to add to cmd16's comment, except that I really liked the ability to destroy the spikes! That was great, and for me quite novel, so I had more fun destroying the spikes than killing the enemies! I guess that fits in the destructible environment wildcard, so good job!
This is a good start, and based on the other comments I've seen and the fact that this is your first game, it seems that you recognize this is just a start.
Theme: not really any discovery yet. Looks like based on the description you were planning to put some treasure and secrets in, but it seems you didn't get to that yet.
Fun: I enjoyed it, but it did get to feel a bit monotonous since all there was to do was avoid the spikes and kill the enemies that were all the same. I'm sure with things a little more fleshed out (adding things like treasure, secrets, variety of enemies (including variety of attacks), variety of terrain) it would be really fun. Also maybe implement whatever that blue bar was supposed to track?
Controls: movement, aiming, and shooting all felt very smooth. However, there is one part that's very broken (not sure if I'd categorize this as fun or as controls). My attack range is greater than the enemies' radius of vision. That means I can kill the enemies before they ever notice me. I can even do this with the final boss!
Graphics: beautiful! I especially like the glow of the torches and the animations (the character movement is delightful, which is great since the character moves a lot).
Audio: I love the music! I love orchestral music, and it's fun to have a change of pace from the typical chiptunes that usually go with pixel art. The music also makes me feel like a proper hero, which is always good for a game like this. I did notice an issue, though: the music doesn't loop. This should be pretty easy to fix (just change the looping property on your audio player). Also, sound effects would really make the game feel more complete and immersive.
Originality: there's not really anything original about this game as it is, but that's totally understandable for a first game.
Thanks allot for your feedback! during the early development hours I got overwhelmed by ideas I wanted to add instead of focussing on the core gameplay first. that's why just like you pointed out the attack range is way to far, the blue bar for mana and attack not hooked up etc.. etc. however I did learned my lesson and that's why i'm currently planning out a lot of features i want to add while still keeping my main focus on getting the game in a fun playable state first. after the first Dungeon is finished and playable as a good Demo to see what the Game has to offer I will upload an Roadmap for what will eventually become the full game.
I hope you'll take a peek once in a while :)
It would be nice if you could provide a Linux and OSX version, thanks
hi there thanks for pointing it out! I have added both OSX and Linux versions to the download section. hope you enjoy!
It took me a few tries to figure out the controls and the only attack I could figure out was a fireball (which worked pretty well in killing baddies). Also, looks like the settings button on the main screen may not be hooked up properly. But once I figured it out I was able to get around the dungeon better.
For a first game this is very decently done.
hey there I hope that you enjoyed playing! I wasn't able to reach the state i wanted the game to be in before submitting. how ever I think it is still a good thing since I didn't rush anything and learned allot . The Game will stay in development and hopefully grow out to something really awesome!
I really appreciate the feedback and would love if u kept checking the game out once in a while :)
Pretty good for your first game!
thank you! I appreciate the feedback! The game will stay in development so if you like it don't forget to take a peek once in a while :)
