I'm a big fan of isometric orthogonal controls, but rotating the 8-direction controls was not the right call for this game. I really liked the artstyle and I think you could make an interesting maze mechanic into a game but most of the time is spent on the water heading to the next island and that's not very fun.
neat little game but perhaps could benefit from a bit more variety. It seemed like the maze difficulty ramped up a bit over the 4 levels (larger with more obstacles), which did force me to plan my path more later which I think added to the timed experience.
The controls were responsive, though it took me a few moments to realize that UP wasn't North. I think this game might benefit from being able to use a controller.
I liked the details with the bushes as you walked by with the graphics and sfx.
Theme: doesn't really feel like discovery to me. As Merly23 stated, you just follow the arrow.
Fun: this could be really fun, but as it is it feels kind of monotonous. The traveling on the sea feels pointless since you're just following the arrow for what feels like too long, and the mazes are really easy (and all feel the same). With better level design and maybe some additional mechanics (for example, maybe the sea travel is more than just following an arrow across an empty sea to reach the next island), this could be great!
Controls: worked well. Nothing else to say.
Graphics: great! Everything was good quality and well-polished, and separate pieces (e.g., tiles) connected seamlessly so the world felt cohesive.
Audio: love the SFX! I really like that you added the sound of the rustling bushes; that's a nice touch. And the sound for picking up an artifact is nice too. The music sounds good at first, but can get a bit repetitive and irritating after playing long enough. Perhaps make the melody a little more interesting and the loop a little longer.
Originality: mazes aren't original, grabbing artifacts isn't original, seafaring isn't original, but when you combine these elements together you get something that's at least a little original since these things aren't usually combined.
This is simply my opinion:
Theme: I don't see how this game is related to discovery and exploration since you don't really explore, you just follow the arrow to the direction of the item. If just the arrow had had been deleted I would have gave it 5 stars. But I sadly can't give it more than 2 stars.
Fun: The game was fun to play, I would find myself playing and enjoying this often. However it really comes to be kind of doing the same thing as the level design doesn't change through levels. Therefore 4 stars.
Graphics: The artwork was polished and everything was very promising. I have not a single thing to complain about. Although I will ignore the fact some animations are missing, maybe that adds to the charm. 5 stars.
Audio: At first it was nice and I thought, this deserves 5 stars. However after playing it over and over it becomes irritating to the point I don't find pleasure but pain on hearing the soundtrack. No complains from me about SFX, nice work on that area. 2 stars.
Originality: This is a combination of a lot of concepts and it makes it unique. Like this really is not what you see very often but you know everything isn't new. Overall 4 stars.
