It was a lot of fun rescuing monsters and using them to fight the wizards! I also liked how there was optional harder content in the game, though having some life recovery item along that path would have been nice. The cartoony pixel art looks great and I liked the sound effects!
This would be cool to expand into a larger game! I could envision the jam version as just prologue and after you get out you lead your monsters into a full fledged war.
Thanks! :-)
I thought a lot about health regen, but I couldn't think of a way that would work well with the game mechanics and lore. Like, can only the hero pick up health items? If so, that's kind of counter to the lore of a revolution: we're all in this together. If the monsters can pick them up too, that sounds pretty chaotic. I thought about maybe a room with a health regen fountain that would heal everyone? Or maybe your character is an "orc shaman" (unlike the others) and you can use a heal spell on yourself or any of the others (maybe with mana you pick up)? In the end, I just decided to skip it all together: this is such a short experience, maybe preserving your health could just be part of the challenge.
Heh. I honestly felt myself instinctively going to the fountains to try to see if they healed me. XD
