I liked your game! it's fun and i like the idea of trading resources.

I only miss a minimap or reference of where each building is but very good overall!

Developer

Thanks for your feedback!

I agree that a way to check on a map could be interesting to implement  🤔

I really liked playing but I thought it was pretty difficult.  It was satisfying picking up the food but it wasn't clear at first how to drop-off and pick-up folks at first (the instructions on the page helped though). I still never figured out how to use the metal except for buying food.  I'd definitely try it out again if you ever decide to implement the rest of the items on your to-do list.

Developer(+1)

Thanks for the feedback!

It REALLY needs an in-game tutorial 😅  When you stay still, you convert metal into "culture" ( a hidden resource), which defined how many people will join each time you arrive at a new city. Also, if you are caught by bandits and don't have enough metal for them, they will take even more food as they originally would, and will kill some of your people.

Cool game! I think the main issues I had with it have been pretty well laid out below.

Will you keep working on it? I'd love to see a more polished version of this, arcadey games like this are right up my alley! I had no clue what influenced my score, for example.

Developer

Glad you like it!

I would like to make an update to fix everything that was listed (and add some little stuff that has to be cut out, listed in the "for the future" section). You gain score by commercing with cities and gaining resources from mines and lighthouses (of course, without a tutorial, you wouldn't wouldn't have a clue 😅)

Submitted(+1)

Really cool game, managing supplies is cool and the bandits are fun to try and escape, would be cool if you could sell things in town for money and buy other things such as upgrades to the wagon and other materials. Could also have events when you enter a town with different choices and consequences. Well done on the game!

Developer(+1)

Thanks for the feedback!
You have hit the nail with the upgrades and random events. Those were some things I wanted to implement as well! 😅 This ended up being a base prototype for it

I agree that the city pop ups can be frustrating when you’re trying to escape bandits.

I like the idea, it is pretty smooth to just be able to zoom around collecting food. I wasn’t really able to figure out how the mines work, so maybe making that a bit clearer would help.

Developer (1 edit)

Thanks for the feedback!!

I think a "press E" interaction would have solved the city popup problem. That was a lack of testing on my part 🤔

Glad you like the general idea, tho! In the mines and lighthouses, you can leave people and, when you come back sometime after, you can retrieve them, with a payment made in metal/food (although the equation for it is a little broken haha)

I wasn't sure what to do at first, but i wandered around and figured it out. Fun concept and cute pixel art! I would suggest adding some in-game hints and some music - perhaps something that would suit an adventurer, but with a hint of foreboding. Congrats on the submission!

Developer

Thanks for your feedback! Hints and sound are a must. Do you have any example music in mind for the "adventurer vibe?

Submitted

Maybe something like this, 39:40 or 19:11 :D

or 43:10!

Developer(+1)

Okay, I see what you mean. Thanks for the musical examples!! Really dig the 19:11 one (kind of a Celtic/Scottish vibe) 🙌

I love meself some good Dragon Warrior, and I loved the simplistic animations! The gameplay was simple enough that even without tutorials I could manage, but some of the mechanics ended up being a tad confusing. I also felt the font to be a tad jarring, but it’s mostly because of Godot’s aliasing than anything else.

Good work!

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing!!

Actually, I haven't managed to edit the font, it's the Godot one (I found it a little tedious to change it) 😅
Glad to hear that even without tutorials you manage to understand it! I was worried 😥

Pixel Art = Best Art. I liked your super simple style. The game itself was, slightly confusing. But I noticed that you already addressed those issues with other comments. It was fun to chase down my food source though lol. A bit tough to balance the whole movement/food cost mechanic. But hey, for a late start and going in alone, I think these issues can be expected. GWJ is every month though, and you clearly have some drive to make a game. I suggest that you get right back in there next month and maybe pick up a member or two! Solid effort Borza! ^^

Developer(+1)

Glad you like it! I actually prefer a little more develop pixel art style, but I don't have the talent for it. I have to practice more 😅

I will be improving the animal AI, so they don't go running in front of you by accident, so expect more chasing!

I should consider teaming up with someone! This was my second entry in the GWJ, but I always end up working on my own mainly to challenge myself to do everything (here's my first game, if you are curious).

Thanks for the support and kind words! 🙌

Submitted(+1)

I noticed that a good few people do choose to go it alone. Nothing wrong with that really. But once you try working in a team a few times, and get people who are fairly like minded, I'm sure it would be tough to go back to solo. As for your art, I'm no professional, but if you ever want some tips or a critique on something that you made- you're more than welcome to message me on Discord. ^^

Developer(+1)

I agree that once you start working with a team, it's hard to go back... In another GWJ I will try it 🤩
And I will most certainly take you on the tip/critique proposal! Same to you, if you need opinions on game design/ narrative 👉

Fun and simple game. I had no idea what to do, though, other than find food and attract people.

Some music would have created an atmosphere that would be enthralling.

Overall, I like it.

Developer

Glad you liked it! I really need to make an in-game tutorial😅

What style of music do you think would benefit this atmosphere?

Submitted

I don't know how to describe it. Something that combines the idea of traveling with danger.

Submitted(+1)

I love the high contrast art, reminds me of the good old DOS games.

The lack of a description what to do, made this game a bit hard to understand. But as far as I figured out what to do, it was quite fun. Also adding some sound would improve this game a lot!

Nevertheless it's a good game! Great job! :)

Developer

Thanks! Totally agree that the game needs some tutorial, it's kinda hard to understand going blind. Also is lacking of feedback (visual and sound) it's a problem. I joined the jam a little late 😅
