Glad I stuck this one out. I was able to play on my QWERTY keyboard (albeit it slightly awkwardly). I think the keyboard mapping issue you describe could be considered a "game breaking bug" and you might have been allowed to re-upload?
In any case, some of the animation and effects are really nice. Oh and the music, is spot on! :) As you mentioned, you ran out of time -- missing things like a game over screen, progress bar maybe(?), ability to pause, re-map controls etc. all would be nice, but I think the core is a really good start. Good luck with continuing to develop!
Hey, thanks a lot for sticking through and trying out the game :) Also thanks for the kind words !
As I have an AZERTY keyboard myself, most game I play aren't adapted to my keyboard type either, it's just that the reverse isn't common but I don't think it's really gamebreaking. Just modify your keyboard to AZERTY for the duration of the game :)
Tbf we should've added options for control, a menu, etc. Those things were next in line, if we had an extra day they would be there. We intentionally focused on having the best core gameplay possible, not really on having a complete game. Clearly this was to our detriment as lacking basic features really makes the game harder to play and hurts how well we can communicate the mechanics. We'll do things differently for our next game jam !
A quick comment before we can update the description :
Please note that spells need to be unlocked, you unlock the fireball at wave 3 for example. An element item will appear, and you have to pick it up before the end of the wave (else it disappears forever, sorry that's a bug).
Hi, tried your game but the listed controls weren't working for me. :(
D moved me right, but Q moved me left and I couldn't figure out how to switch elements.
I made a mistake when selecting the inputs. We have an AZERTY keyboard and I used physical inputs...
Try this and tell me if it work :) (image below) or you can use an AZERTY keyboard ^^
I will make a more accessible version tomorrow! It's my first game jam and I ran out of time to do the accessibility which is actually the most important...
Thank you! I will find the time to go back and try this one again.
To add, you can't switch elements from the start, you have to unlock them.
They appear at some point during the levels. Also please note that there's a bug and that if you finish the wave before taking the element, it will disappear and you won't have another chance to unlock it without restarting the run. Simply avoid killing all enemies on screen before picking up the spell.
Very nice arcade game with stunning visual effects. GG!!
Thanks a lot !
A small note on the game by the game designer (me).
This is a challenging little game, and I've personally been having a bit of fun with it. I finally beat it after tryharding for an hour yesterday (last level is VERY unfair lol, super easy to get overwhelmed). Now I can beat it pretty consistently.
I hope you enjoy it.
Sorry about the lack of general polish (no menu nor tutorial in game). Hopefully the written tutorial in the description makes up for it.
Right now we're planning on releasing a more polished version after the jam, with a bit of difficulty rebalancing and bugfix.
I couldn't properly play the game. I couldn't move but the art and the bloom was nice. I liked killing those shapes.
Hello, game designer here.
Thanks for trying the game !
That's really unfortunate, we didn't have any issues playtesting it on windows and linux. Are you on Mac perhaps ? I've read the mac build is broken.
I'm saddened because this means you couldn't see the spells and we're really proud of those :(
(Technical issues aside, were you usind Q/D for movement ? Arrow keys won't work)
Oh no I used the windows version. I tried using wasd but it didn't work and I don't remember whether it was space or shift that had this dash to the right and I could jump too. I could shoot but I couldn't move. I still loved the game!! It looked so cool!!!
So apparently there's an accessibility issue with QWERTY keyboards.
If you have the time, I would love if you could try it again setting up your keyboard in AZERTY (French keyboard). Thanks in advance !
Also we're very honored that you still loved the game inspite of the issues, it means a lot.
Oh I see!! How do I change it?
I found this small tutorial online : https://ccm.net/computing/hardware/403-qwerty-vs-azerty-keyboards/
There's a few steps, it involves going to the control panel, but it seems pretty easy to do. Although please don't bother too much if it doesn't work, and sorry for the lack of accessibility :( Thanks a lot for taking the time already.
(Also a quick thing that we forgot to put in the description : spells need to be unlocked, they won't work from the start. Unlocks disappear at the end of the wave (it's a bug) so don't forget to pick them up !)
Mac build is broken
This is the first time I build on mac. On the mac I had available it worked fine. Can you describe me the problem or send me a private message on discord please :) Ryokugin#3800
This is the error I get when trying to run it:
I'm not sure but I think you have to open the .dmg file and run the .app file inside :)
I'm guessing you tried to create this from a Windows machine? Mac builds need to be created from a Mac machine that has XCode installed: https://docs.godotengine.org/en/3.4/tutorials/export/exporting_for_mac.html#requ...
