Controls where a bit floaty, but that may have been an issue on my end. Fun christmasy theme, but the wilhelm scream on every death was a bit much.

I couldn't tell what grabbing did. I figured it was to refill your fuel meter, but it didn't seem to do anything.

Nice audio feedback on the candy cane thwack

Developer

Yeah, the game is definitely needs instructions or a tutorial. You're supposed to pick up the elves and put them in the grinder.

Thanks for playing, and for giving feedback!

Cool game, its nice that you went trhough the effort of crediting all assest and stuff, I was a bit confused at first because the first elf spawn in the left side of the house, after I realised they came from the path was easier. 1 elf being enought to end the game is a bit too harsh for me. Good job!

Nice game.  Here are some notes:

  • Font choice is excellent.  Needs an outline though because it blends with other white things.
  • Menu music is too low.  Check if you're using the regular AudioStreamPlayer node and not the 2D one.
  • The "Back" button in the menus needs to have a margin.  It's too close to the corner.
  • You went above and beyond in the Credits and being transparent about everything.  Everyone needs to take note and follow your example.
  • I'm not sure what the goal(s) are so I made my own.  It took me I think 20-30 attempts to get the green/white billiard ball to hit the snowman.

Good try and keep it up.

Thanks for the feedback!

I love hearing that you found a way to make your own fun.

Your submission was awesome. The third boss' death sprite got a good laugh out of me.

Well that's a very literal take on Blood is Fuel, lol. Rather ambitious, and not that bad at all. Good job

What a crazy game :D

Loved it, even though everything was bit wonky and unresponsive.

Developer

Thanks for playing! And thanks for leaving some feedback.

Could you elaborate on what specifically felt wonky and unresponsive?

Rather ambitious for your first GWJ, and there are a few things to talk about.

First, the gameplay loop: Not sure why, but my cursor needed to click the window before I could look around. Not necessarily a you problem, but elves coming in from every direction is. Perhaps it makes sense as the game continues, but leads to a quick game over if you don't realize that can happen.

The game over screen is incredibly long, and seems to be a persisting game state. Attempting to restart the game will take you immediately back to game over, and the cursor no longer exists when trying to go back to main menu.

These two issues combine together to sabotage an otherwise time-honored pastime.

That said, there's no shame in what you've put together. The custom cursor is a nice touch, and these issues are merely a result of overambition.

You've done well as a solo dev. Come back in January, and try again!
