I was really struggling until I saw the comment about zooming in on the browser page. Then I was able to see the whole interface and it made much more sense :').

I really liked evolving and gaining the upgrades, especially the tongue. For some reason it got harder for me to push enemies when I got the frog arms... maybe they should be slightly sticky like the tongue but only for one fly? Or maybe the controls were confusing me and I kept going the opposite of the way I wanted.

In any case it was fun to collect frog parts! Good game!

Developer

Yeah we debated adding sticky hands, but then ran out of time haha! Thanks for playing

A background music would have made it more immersive. Another detail is that the first time I opened it, I had to zoom in on the browser page to see more because it looked very small, which caused me to miss the number of flies I needed to catch. You could add a fullscreen option on itch.io and make your game non-resizable to maintain the original screen dimensions.

Developer

I'm sorry to hear the audio didn't work for you, thanks for the advice, will play with those controls after the jam is over

Thanks for playing!

Nice premise. Early game pushing flies into the trap feels challenging. Nice upgrades. Pacing felt slow if I missed the indicator and couldn't find my new body parts. Maybe you don't need the "go and find" gameplay element.

Developer

Yeah the original game was going to be an explore to find new parts kind of game, but that was way too much for us so we had to roll back a few things, guess it didn't make all that much sense to keep it around anymore, thanks for playing!

The theme usage was great, I loved the image of my squinting lil tadpole with one eye. Gameplay hit its stride once the tongue is unlocked, was quite satisfying to spin around and sling as many flies as I could into the catcher. Controls could be improved a bit by having the WASD be local to the current facing direction instead of tied to the cardinal positions, but after a minor adjustment period it wasn't hard to get used to them.

Developer

Thanks for playing!

We hadn't thought of local controls, but yeah, that definitely could've experimented with other control system, noted for a future game jam.
