Cute game!  Like others have mentioned, second level is brutal.  I think a dash would have helped a lot.  The X indicator was great, without it, it would feel really unfair.  I liked you gave a clear "tell" anim for the charge.  Also, kudos on the controls and how-to at the start!

Developer

Thanks! Dash is a good idea. Balance was the hardest thing to tweak coming into the final stretch, and I finally decided it wasn't worth potentially breaking things anymore and put my pencil down :P

Glad you enjoyed it :D

Being able to stop is one of the most valuable skills, don't forget it!

Diagonal movement was the only way I could stay alive :D   I like the art, but I wish all the enemies were recognizable, wasn't sure what the first circular one was supposed to be

Developer

Thanks! It's supposed to be a rolly-polly bug chasing you :P

Art's not my forte, but I'm working on it :)

Thanks for playing my game!

Fun game! I like the fact that you show an “X” where the enemies will appear, it gives you time to rethink the move and avoid unfair damage. Good job!

Developer

Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it :D The spawning X ended up being easier to implement that I thought, so I'm glad I spent the time on it. And I'm glad it helped!

Easy to grasp but quite difficult due to an extremely small margin of error. I managed to get to the third stage and have no idea how to deal with those pesky spitting flies :S

I'm kinda split on the artstyle, cause I think that most assets are fine by themselves, but they don't quite make a cohesive whole.

One small nitpick - the movement vector might not be normalized, cause the player character feels faster when moving diagonally then when moving sideways.

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing! You eat the flies and dodge their projectiles :)

I did all the art myself and it's not a great skill of mine, but I'm hoping to improve as time goes on. Thanks for the art feedback in particular! :D

And I think you're right on the normalization. I had it in there, then refactored the movement code, and it looks like I forgot to put that piece in >.< Oh well lol :P

Nice submission! The difficulty curve is quite steep :D The first level was a bit too long, but easy, but second level was very brutal :) It was fun to play! Some bcg music and basic sfx would make it even more fun :)

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing! I had planned on some sfx and music, but time got away from me and all of a sudden there was less than an hour to go and no sound :P

I had difficulty balancing level 2. Very small changes swung it from easy to hard. I should have tilted it to easy so more people could see the final stage :P

LOL second form looked like  worm is a boot so i tried stomping those balls only to loose all my lives! also if you press space  worm keeps multiplying i think that is not a feature.  what was that black goop that you ate rotten lettuce?

Developer

Haha everyone seems to think the second form was a shoe or boot of some sort. It's supposed to be a mutated caterpillar :P That's what I get for doing the art myself! :D

Yes, the space bar bug is not intended. It's a side effect from a development feature I didn't remove before posting.

The goop is some weird mixture of chewed up leaf and toxic waste.

well certainly has personality the boot worm second stage! :))

Submitted

Haha, I had the same idea about stomping :D Cost me half the lives :D

Surprisingly fun for a small game. I liked that you included how to play in the start menu so I didn't have to read through the itch page.

Developer

Glad you liked it!

Loved the space bar bug/feature hahaha It is fun to keep creating copies of yourself while moving around, it adds a nice extra challenge! Good job! :)

Developer

Haha glad you enjoyed it! :D

Such a fun little game! :D We laughed so much playing it, the difficulty ramped up quite quickly! Great work :)

Developer

Awesome! Thanks for playing!

Cute game, nice work! Had to check it out because we also made something similar :D I am curious what happens when I press space bar, was that intended?

Developer

Haha thanks! There was a bug I kept fixing that would pop back up where clones of the player would spawn. Is that what happened to you?

Submitted(+1)

Yeah I noticed the cloning too. Pressing escape also seemed to freeze the game.
Interesting bug, maybe you could disable the ui_accept input since it seems tied to that

Developer

Esc is tied to quit and space/enter are tied to starting the game. I put those in to make dev easier and should have disabled them for the web version. So it's just calling the start function every time someone pressing a ui_accept button :P
