Nice game, pretty fun 😀
I don’t know if you will update it, but I would love to be able to upgrade the astronaut as well :)
I love the dying / inventory explosion xD
Gosh this game is addicting ^^;
Brilliant concept, I love the urgency in the game and the fact that you need to learn it a little bit before you can 'get good'. Collecting the items and making decisions on what items weren't necessarily worth the risk was quite
Very enjoyable game.
This was a really fun game. It took me a few attempts to understand what I was doing well enough to beat it, but I did eventually manage a full run and beat the game. Overall, I really enjoyed this game, and one of the highlights of this jam. In terms of suggestions I'd make, I can think of a few, but they're all fairly minor.
One is that I feel like the controls could have been simplified. There are a lot of keyboard buttons needed for this game, and I feel like it could and should have been reduced somewhat. One would be to avoid having to manually refuel the ship. I'd either have just one fuel value (the one the player carries), or make it so that hopping into the ship automatically fuels the ship as much as possible. Even just this one change I feel would help make the game feel more approachable.
I feel like the game could have done with a main menu. There is the story screen, but having an additional main menu would have been nice to see. You could then put the difficulty settings on there instead of the pause screen, which I assume would be easier to handle, since you aren't applying those settings while in the middle of the game.
On the topic of settings, the pause menu feels excessive. Having individual sliders for every possible sound effect is more than I think is necessary. In my game, I just went with two sliders: one for music and one for SFX, which I think was good enough if you balance the audio well enough yourself. (I handled this in Godot using audio buses, which makes it fairly easy to implement). Similarly, the difficulty sliders are hard to grasp. The descriptions are fairly vague, and could have used more clarification. While I think sliders are a nice feature for those that want it, I think having something like two or three balanced presets would have been nice for people who don't want that level of granularity. Something like "Easy", "Normal", "Hard", and "Custom" could have worked.
Well, it took me about 6 or 7 tries to finally win...
Death by R: x2-3
Death by falling block: x2
Death by bugged ship: x1
Death by other: ?
It felt great to return to it today and make it out of that world!

Out of all the games submitted, I personally think this one was the best implementation & pairing of mechanics and theme. The goal was clearly established from the get-go, and you did a great job of incorporating multiple gameplay mechanics that made this small game feel really unique! The intersection of between the mechanics of resource gathering + upgrades, platforming (I'll let that part slide 😉), and time management made each playthrough memorable. On top of that, there were plenty of different strategies to try on each load up, meaning I was excited to try something new each time!
As far as the platforming goes, movement felt really smooth and satisfying. I liked the triple jump system a LOT. It definitely helped the player to feel capable and under control.
I really appreciated that you developed the soundtrack and art yourself!! On top of that, it was awesome to have control over so many volume sliders! But yes, a master volume slider & persistent settings would've been a huge help! Also, R is dangerous... too dangerous!
Glad I had the opportunity to break the game for you 😉
Thanks for your submission to the HF 2023 Game Jam!
I love this game so much!! It's such a unique idea to have a platforming-exploring game that's on a time crunch as the world is falling around you, thus opening up different paths along the way. It was so fun gathering collectibles and frantically figuring out what I needed to do as I went along. I think the deaths are a little unfair, however, as once you lose your stuff, it feels nearly impossible to get it back and I end up just resetting the game when that happens cause it feels like I lost my entire life savings lmao. My favorite part of the game was when I figured out that I could DRIVE THE SPACESHIP AROUND THE MAP and it suddenly unlocked a whole other portion of the map to explore and I felt more and more pressured to escape and set my spaceship in a safe place that it won't fall but I'd also be able to reach again- It's just insanely fun and transforms the game into something completely different. Excellent use of game mechanics and pacing, definitely one of my favorites!!!
Yeah the death penalty is harsh, but there is an option you can configure to make it less mean!
Unfortunately I didn't see that until after I finished the game😭but ngl that's on me, I wouldn't even think of that to be an option!
I like this game! A bit of polish with the readability and I reckon it would do well.
Well done!
Very nice mechanics. Lost my ship like 5 times before I managed to warp away. Overall not too easy, not too hard. Great game overall.
So glad we got the difficulty about right, we were tweaking that right up to the end!
I was pretty impressed by the game and was surprised at how challenging it was (mostly because I died frequently, and that reduced my resources considerably). I like the premise behind it. This was probably my favorite out of the bunch of games I tried, but I didn't have time for all of them.
Hell ya, 3th try the charm
