It turned out to be a very good game. Congratulations! Keep it up!

I loved the game DUSK and your work is very similar to it.

I wish you much success in the future and all the best and happiness!

Developer (1 edit) (+2)

Thank you very much I really appreciate that! ♥
I also drew a lot of inspiration from DUSK, Quake, Doom, Wolfenstein and Blood, so your insights are good!

*Unfortunately, I didn't even manage to finish the first level and it has a lot of bugs.

You got inspiration from good places! I really like most of them, especially because of the themes and the old school effect.

I hope to see some more good games from you in the future. GL!

Getting this close to finishing a full-scale demo for a boomer-shooter is jaw-dropping!

That aside, it's well made. You nailed the gunplay, amplifying it with the little camera peek, and knockback combined with the grim vibe, well done! If I have to say a con, the player's movement speed is a bit slow.

Developer (1 edit)

I really appreciate your comment and thank you very much! It means a lot to me that you liked my project!
Previously, the player's movement speed was a little higher, but the idea was that: after each collected major soul shard (dropped by demons), the Player's movement speed and damage will increase, and his health will decrease. As you gain more power(speed and damage), you lose something valuable(health).
Unfortunately, I didn't really manage to implement this well in the project. ;)

I brought some fun facts about the project!

1. I wanted a moving sky with godrays and I solved this in a rather primitive way:

2.  The main menu map would originally have been the player start map where the controls(movement, interaction) tutorial takes place.

3. I made three rock models and spent a minute on each piece.

4. I only 'finished' 1/10 of the map where the player starts.

5.  The player can never experience 'Growing agony' because when the demons are slain, the major soul shards spawn under the terrain.

6. Four shotgun shells pop out when you reload.

7. If the player dies, they go to the undev zone. This is what happens when the developer doesn't get enough sleep.

8.  You may click on the Hunjam logo and things happen! ;)

9. You can't change anything in the settings.

We need a GOTY edition ;)
Honestly, I love the style, the music is fucking fire, the double shotguns are the only weapon a game needs period. Great job!

Developer

Haha! Thank you so much Matt! Love ya brother!

That’s f*cking amazing especially considering the time frame. The textures, models, level design and lighting are all pages of a love letter to boomer shooters written in blood and and the gunplay is crunchier than the bottom of a mass grave. Loved the music too.

At first I found the starting map a little too dark and I was trying to reach for a flashlight… turned out that the double shotguns are the flashlight :)

I hope you feel proud, because you really should.

Developer

Honestly, I didn't expect to get so much positive feedback!
Gratefully THANK YOU very much!
A little background story about the map: it was the 4th one I worked on (the others I deleted because they were broken) and I didn't have nearly enough time to finish (then there were only two hours left from the gamejam when I started working on it). The light bake kept breaking, so I had to delete a lot of light sources right before the finish (and the light map still contains anomalies).

Basically, the darkness on the map is not entirely intended, but I'm really glad you liked it! Thanks a lot! ;)

The small details make this game an absolute fire!
The tutorial messages in the beginning, the bullet holes in the walls, the lightning and the accelerated gameplay! Made me wanna play more of it, like a new version of Quake! Well done on reaching this state of the game within 48 hours!!

Developer

Woaa! Thank you SOOO MUCH! It means A LOT to me!
It was really heartwarming that you noticed such small things that make the gameplay feel smoother but it is usually overlooked!
You are the most talented composer I know. All your work is worth gold! Thank you very much for the great metal music I received from you, it adds a lot to the half-finished/broken little project!

I'm a friggin' priest with double double-barreled shotguns. That's all I need.

It's sad that it wasn't ready in time, but I still really liked watching a part of the game. The whole "oldschool vibe" reminds me a lot of the old Dooms. Great job Bestie ♥

Thank you so much, it means a lot to me! ♥
This was my first upload on itch.io, and I didn't quite understand how it should be done, so it's my fault that I couldn't publish it in time. I haven't touched the project since then, so it has major issues. Fortunately, it is somewhat playable!

Yea, that was skill issue. End of day, I managed to upload my project. I will be much more professional next time!;)
