In the beginning it says "Run permanent death game"
How did you tell itch to change the description of the game, can I ask?
I admittedly did not get very far in this, but considering the permadeath locked me out to the point of not being able to relaunch the game, I'm sure you expected this would happen to people? I found it to be incredibly punishing and thought the limited field of vision hurt the game, rather than built suspense and atmosphere like you intended.
I wish I'd been able to relaunch and try a few more times to get used to mechanics and see what you worked hard to share with us, but, since you didn't want the player to come back more than a certain amount of times, I'll be tapping out too, I suppose.
It wasn't until AFTER playing that I learned the browser version is "hard mode." You should consider making that clearer in game, to the player.
This could be cool, but I don't like being locked out of something as a "mechanic."
I liked the beginning overall, but I had no idea how to save, was unable to enter any game menu, got forced into a fullscreen and finally being dropped into a group of monsters that just killed me...I am not sure if dying was intended or not, but at that point, I just used alt+f4 which fortunately worked and escaped the game.
If you want to get rid of 4 enemies after you encountered a torch, press X quickly and hold both SHIFT and Arrow Keys to run to the north side.
Pressing ALT-F4 is a cheater.
I really like the intro you made and the atmosphere is quite creepy once you wake up, for an horror game is perfect! :D As for the levels in the dark, my advice would be to also put objects like columns, statues, ecc... so the player understand if they've already crossed a specific path or not. ;-)
I appreciated your review a lot, and yeah, I have no to little interest in horror games. It will be perfect if I will making a meta-horror game with or without puzzle features.
You did some interesting things with this game. The ambient background sounds along with the filter effects did a great job of creating an unsettling atmosphere. The story concept was good but the translation took away some of its impact. The enemies are very unforgiving, I would suggest starting off with fewer to let the player get used to knocking them. I think you have a talent for horror games but the gameplay needs a little improvement.
Just found out I played the hard mode version too lol

Hey there Moonwriter's Tale, thanks for submitting a project to the 2022 IGMC. I'm Drifty and I was asked to judge your game in round one of the IGMC 2022 game jam. Here's some feedback about your project.
Starting out I got a little Rakuen vibe from this game. I find it interesting how you changed the text display and pacing of the game.
The translation into English is a bit rough and while you can sort of understand the meaning, it's hard to read because of the way that it's worded.
I like the combination of PIXI filters and the customized tileset. A little filtering can go a long way. The attention to lighting is also appreciated.
The first time that I encountered the four dark death dealers they quickly surrounded me and I was unable to do anything but get hit ten times and immediately die, only to be met with a force game-close that required the game to be relaunched.
Maybe it's because I am playing with a controller?
I like the meta data storage. Relaunching the game remembers that I died, but what's the point of using the crystal ball to save if the game just deletes all the save data?
The next time I tried with the keyboard, I was unable to get passed the first set of four enemies. They immediately bum rushed me into the entrance, hit me ten times, while I frantically hit all the buttons on the keyboard. I died and the game closed again.
I tried to relaunch the game only to be met with a screen that says too bad you can't play because you died. Then it force closes the game again.
I'm confused and at a loss as to what made you decide to make a game that won't allow the players to continue to play.
Thanks for submitting a project to the IGMC 2022. I also noticed you submitted this same project to three other game jams.
Good luck on your placements there as well.

Thank you for playing my game, but you got the worst ending, known as "DEATH" (In which the main character is permanently dead). There are three endings in the game depending on its gameplay. (None is good, one is bad, and two is the worst. These are death counts.)
I know my grammars were pretty bad because English is not my native language (In reality, I'm Filipino), but I deeply appreciated you about my ideas like meta-data anti-cheat and permadeath systems inspired by RM2003 version OneShot, and Flash drama One Chance. So, I'm using MV to focus on its system for game jams without self-programming.
Also, the torch item was inspired by yours from YouTube which I found. (Sorry I forgot to credit it as "Special Thanks".)
I only realized after checking the comments here that the version I played, the one in browser, was in hard mode, which explains a fair bit about how quickly I wound up dying while playing it, haha. This was an interesting game, with some very cool mechanics, such as the permadeath, the torches going out over time and having to be replenished, and the sound cues whenever a monster got close to you.
I found myself having a hard time navigating and getting around, though, as there weren't many landmarks to distinguish where I was, and my torch often ran out before I could find a new one. There were also times I seemed to get "stuck" on a monster and couldn't push them away for a few hits, and whenever I opened a door, I couldn't seem to find any way to get avoid getting hit, as the monsters would end up waiting at the door for me to leave. I also noticed a few issues grammatically, but that's a very minor nitpick, especially if the game maker is ESL (as that'd make it a lot more difficult).
I think if this project was worked on in the future, adding in some landmarks to make it a bit easier for the player to navigate would help a lot, but all things considered, it was a very neat little project!

I added the HTML version, but it's for hard mode only. If you want easy mode, there's a downloadable "Windows" version if you press "Life or Death's itch.io page".
