Finished the game and…it’s sad I didn’t manage to return on Kirameki Estate because of the demo roadblock D:
It’s a really polished game, even if something like the initial arena camp (like the one in a screenshot) could really use some “movement” because it’s really empty and huge.
Combat system is nice, but I didn’t use BP much because I didn’t know how they work and I am confused about attacks and skills. Sometimes I feel the skills are weaker than the normal attack.
The story for some extent is quite predictable, so you should improve it a bit.
…ok, enough nitpicks.
I liked really much the use of day and night, is really nice to see, cooking is great too (especially if you make something like the really useful Onigiri).
MPs are used well, I don’t feel like mashing the most powerful skill all the time and win everything, in fact for the “demo boss” I had to grind a bit of JP to actually win. Debilitate, Icicle and Heal More made me win that boss fight. I wished a bit more drops, it was good to find Meat x2 against Boar, but I repeated many times that fight (even if I thought to reflect that Rock Smash as an elemental skill).
I forgot, I like the fact enemies are not pushover, you need to fight at your best otherwise for you it’s the end.
Even if it’s RTP, I liked the overall graphics especially the added ones. The story is good and makes you go forward for the game and find more. I liked the sounds and music.
It’s a really good game and can’t wait for the full game. You need to improve a bit some parts of it in the way though, but you will make it 100%.
Cool battle mechanics -- I like that you even include the small detail of the graphic change when the weapon is changed and the stackability of the boosts is definitely fun for figuring out what will be the strongest. I also like the border of the battle background.
I would've loved to see at least a stationary image behind some of the white text narrative elements, rather than just a black screen -- though a full-blown cutscene would be even better. Based on your comments on the page already, that might have been a time-constraint thing and get added in later.
I'm glad to see that you're planning on continuing to expand on this because I think you have a solid foundation to continue building on.
Literally radiant arc. Pretty good standard rpg, I managed to get to the end of the demo even with the small lag and all battles being stuck zoomed in for some reason. The difficulty is pretty challenging. I had way too many close calls and the boosts made a HUGE difference in the outcomes of the fights. Overall a fun game!
Ok, right off the bat, I could already feel the vibe and ambiance of the game. I like that the sound, art, and background go really well together. If anything, changing the buttons to a custom one will make it stand out more.
The intro was nicely done. It meshed really well with what I got from the title screen. The first battle was also entertaining. I guessed right— the game really has an interesting battle system! <3
The storytelling is also nice! I mean those scenes where it's completely black and it's just the narration. I imagine it to have more impact and cool if there was like an actual cutscene showing it. Might take some time, but definitely worth it to watch in my opinion.
I can see a lot of potential from this game. It's very well done! It's the kind of adventure RPG that I would definitely spend hours to play. The story and battle system is what stood out for me. A lot of mechanics are present in this game so I also imagine it to be made as a bigger game. I can definitely see the influence of GI here, but with your own take on it.
Mapping isn't bad as well, but I can see it being improved over time. This is just me nitpicking though haha!
Overall, I really like this game! It's my cup of tea tbh. I enjoyed playing it. Thank you for this! :D
Thanks so much for your kind words and review ^^ Will definitely take it to heart once I decide to expand on this project.
This is Radiant Arc if it had a more japanese setting. Its a full blown JRPG with its own story and world. I'll be honest, I'm kinda impressed with the effort done for this despite a couple of setbacks like the pacing and the overall narrative structure being not too deep.
I hope that this project can be polished since this might work as a simple commercial release if more of the finetune bells and whistles were implemented.
Combat is interesting, albeit it has its complexity in terms of weaknesses, break gauges and more. Presentation is RTP fare but its presentable enough.
Thank you for the review! I'll be honest I really wish I had more time to work on the game, but I found out about igmc a week into it and I really had to rush some aspects I wish I didn't, and a lot of work needs to be done. I'd definitely like to polish this game in the future, so thanks for pointing some things out!
