Description
"As you dive inside the mountain cave, desperate to seek shelter from the elements, you stop: mesmerized...before you, you see him. The Mountain King himself. He picks up a giant sword...and lunges."
--
I gave myself a challenge and tried to make a boss theme in 4 stages! (Encounter, Boss Fight, 2nd Phase, and Ending) Didn't get it as clean as I wanted, but I'm happy with how it came out! :D

Of course, lots of inspiration from the Dark Souls series, plus some Hans Zimmer and Danny Elfman inspiration as well.

The story goes: you find a large, looming cave entrance on an adventure through the wintery mountainside. As you enter this magnificent cave, you notice it's filled with relics of a forgotten kingdom. Sad, but majestic. And sitting on a throne in the back is something you thought was dead a moment ago...until it rises, revealing his true form. The Mountain King, adorned with a mighty sword, ready for combat. You better have those potions at hand, adventurer.

All made in Logic Pro, with a keyboard at home :)

I agree with Fox about it needing more percussion for a boss fight. More energy and power behind the percussion, bringing them forward, like the big thing is right in front of you.

Great work overall though, well done!

Too true too true! Thanks for the feedback!

I really like the 4 stages and how it envelops the story you created. Kinda wish there is a bit more percussion, but other than that fantastic work!

Developer

Thanks so much! I'm glad you were able to hear the stages I had planned out, that was definitely the most difficult part. I'll keep working more on the percussions haha.

All right, pretty nice dynamics and mood change I like the transitions. I definitely think the percussions could be way more in your face for something that can sound Epic and boss fight, they are pretty far away. Most of the sustained instruments creates alot of mud in the mix so probably some EQ could easily fix this or change some range especially on the brass with the long sustain and couple of chord voicing that are too stacked, open them a bit it will help tremendously. But I like the textures its a nice composition but I think it can sound even bigger.

My comment may seem brutal but since this one is unranked, I'm going all in and trying to give maximum feedback so don't be too offended its still a nice track :)

Developer

Hey there! Thanks so much for the feedback, this is all fantastic. Definitely not brutal at all! I also definitely agree with the muddiness and lack of punch. I didn't have too much time to mix it, but I'm heading back in soon and re-working it with these great points. Thanks again!

Hey we both made boss soundtracks for a mountain king that's cool! I love the switch up done halfway through the track and it's done so seamlessly too. Kind of reminds me of some GOT music and GOT music is amazing so really great work :D

Hey we did! Thanks so much! I actually haven't listened to the GOT OST, now I have to haha. Well done on your submissions as well, your Mountain King one was really good :)

Epic one! Sounds really big and Dark Souls like! :)

Thanks so much! :D After listening to your submission, I kind of want to try something a bit more experimental next time haha
