This was pretty cool, using relatively simple mechanics to solve puzzles was nicely implemented imo.

I did get stuck initially until I realized you could swap characters in the pause menu, I was playing in the browser so I didn't even notice a pause screen until I saw the controls. The swapping characters I think is pretty cool, I just didn't interact with it as much. I basically just got almost all the way to the end of the hero's level, then swapped to the girl and finished her section, and then swapped back again.

I'm not sure if I reached the good or bad ending but I got to some sort of screen and then when I started again I had all the items but the hero character wasn't visible on the screen. I'd suggest investigating that unless its some intentional commentary on the fact that the hero died.

I think this could be expanded upon for an interesting game, so keep up the good work!

Developer(+1)

Yeah, that's something that a lot of people are falling into and I should probably make it more obvious that swapping is a think the player can do. And even then, you pretty much only need to swap once to get all the items, then just finish up and go back. I probably could do more with the idea and add in more items, etc, but the initial concept was only made in ~9 hours, so I didn't really get to expand on it.

A lot of people are also reporting that glitch where the player disappears after beating it, so that's definitely something else I need to take a look at. It's 100% not a commentary and you're supposed to be able to keep playing the games over and over.

Thanks for the feedback!

Well done... I like this game concept that you can only move or attack and you have to be aware of your orientation to attack/ solve puzzles. If you can expand on that it will make this game very interesting. I couldn't figure out the puzzles, I got stuck but I think this is a solid concept and worth building on more.

Developer

Yeah, there's definitely a lot more I can do with this (make the puzzles / the swap world mechanic more clear, let the player change direction without moving, boss fights to both worlds,  etc), and there's also definitely still some bugs that I need to patch out too.

Thanks for the feedback!

I thought this game was well-done. I liked the conceit of having to switch characters to get both items. One bug I noticed, however, was that, if you switch your equipped item and then switch a character, the character won't have the new item equipped, even though the item display shows the new item equipped.

Also, I ran into some bugs at the end of the game. By the text, I was sure if I'd run into a win state, a loss state, or a this-is-bad-but-intended-to-progress-in-the-story state. When I started a new game hoping to continue, there was no character onscreen to play.

All in all, a good experience, though! I like the monochromatic color scheme for each character.

Developer

Thanks for the feedback! The selected weapons thing was something I knew about then straight up forgot when patching things for this jam. Someone else reported the character disappearing at the end, and I have no clue what's up with that. At a guess, the camera's returns to the starting room everytime either game is beaten, but that's 100% something I need to take a closer look at later. It's not really good when your game's supposed to loop and there's a bug that makes it impossible.

I really enjoyed this game! I liked the music, especially the girl's. The puzzles were simple but well-done and had a nice progression. I think it would be good if you could change directions while at a wall or obstacle, so that you don't have to move away and come back in the direction you want to perform an action in in order to do so. Speaking of obstacles, I was able to walk through all the tiles with candles. And one time I noticed that I started a fire even though I had the bow and arrow picked. Finally, there should probably be a way to stop the game after you've finished everything -  I was able to go to the girl's game again after finishing both and when I did the girl's sprite was gone.

I'm glad I got to play this! Nice job!

Thanks! Yeah, I probably should've added in a system where you tap to change direction and hold to move. That's one of those hindsight is 20/20 things where it was kinda annoying when testing the levels, and I should've fixed it before uploading. Same for making it so you can return to the title too. Don't know why I didn't include that. Candles aren't really set up like vines / walls, You're supposed to be able to walk into them, but I probably should've made it so you can't for the sake of cohesion. No idea why the girl disappears at the end, but glad you got to play it!

its a cool puzzle game... but i couldnt pass the part with the two unlit candles, i think it is cool to have a game to make me think and try things to get through the levels, and there is only one thing i think that can be improved... the isometric view... well.. it would look better if the isometric view followed just one direction.. but i understand what you have made there... a view for above and in the center will see the walls opening up in every side.. as i said.. its not wrong, just following a tibia-like isometric looks better (even if the tibia isometric... its the wrong one)

also try and rate my game if you want... i am open to any feedback and tips

Thanks for the comment! I should probably give the context that this game was made originally for the Giga Trijam 2021, which had the theme of making 2 games and a time limit of 9 hours, so a lot of the art style choices were made in a rush / used from different asset packs I bought. I'm also more of a programming guy and not really an art guy, so I tend to only focus on art and style towards the end of development.

As for the 2 unlit candles... Since the original theme was 2 games, I made it so there's a shared inventory between the two. So that's the hint you get for that puzzle.

Hi, I'm having trouble loading the game. Whenever I click Run Game all I get is a black screen. And there doesn't seem to be any way to download it either. It's too bad; I was really looking forward to this one.

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

Oh shoot. Never ran into that. At a guess it's taking awhile to load because it's your first time running it, but I'll try to get a downloadable version up later today.

Submitted

Yeah, I was wondering if it was because of my misbehaving internet/loads of tabs open, but there was no indication that it was loading at all, so I wasn't sure.

Unity is just wack sometimes I guess. Either way, there's a windows build and a mac build up now.  Windows works fine for me, but I have no way of testing the mac build. Let me know if there are any more problems.
