I honestly think you have something here that if evolved a bit could be turned into a professional release you would have no trouble selling as a phone app.  You could make a pretty penny with it.  Nice pallette, great mellow music, based on a classic game every person on the planet has heard of with fun addictive gameplay.   I have played a lot of games during this Game Jam but only a few I could see winning the Jam, this is definitely one of them.

I freaking love Tetris so much, and I've been going through rating (browser-playable because I'm on a Chromebook, and downloads are possible but difficult) games by least-rated, and I've just been dying to get to this already. I knew I would love it and I do. It's hard for me to feel any other way about it because of my love for Tetris.

My weird Tetris obsession aside, this really is just a cool concept that's been executed really well. Some letters are just terrible, but it adds a sort of wacky charm. I agree with another comment that a bigger board would probably be nice, and suit the letters better.

I hope you have plans to keep working on this. With only a little more work it could be a completed game, and I want it as a completed game. This also gave me the idea of a multiplayer mode where words you type are the other player's blocks...? I don't know. You probably don't need my goofy ideas; it's just that I love this and I love Tetris, haha. Awesome work!

Very cool idea. The fact that you get to pick you pieces (Alphaminos?) adds a whole other dimension to the standard Tetris format.

It makes me wonder if there is a particular word that would allow one to play indefinitely :)

Incidentally, feel free to check out my own Tetris variant that I made for the most recent jam I was in before this one! https://irishronin.itch.io/not-tetris

One of my favourite mechanics this jam! (SO FAR)

The concept is just very neat, smart, well done! My only problem is that I feel that it was fairly hard to actually score points cause most of the blocks didn't quite seem to fit together well at all, a potential fix might've been to steer away from the default tetris layout and instead went for a field that had a width multiplication of 3. Not sure!

Either way, game was very responsive and I loved the aesthetics, very well put together. As mentioned before, a little bit of SFX and VFX would've been awesome, but for me personally it didn't take away from the game. (Also, I loved the self-aware comment regarding the font haha)

Thank you for your submission!

This is so fun! You really are your own enemy in this game lol. Also, B is best letter <3

Some animations, polish and a leader board  on this and you've got yourself a finished game

Really cool concept! I love the additional layer of strategy/challenge the letter mechanic adds to the game.

Developer

Thanks! You accidentally commented this twice though.

It took a couple of minutes to grasp, but when I got it, it was good. Very clever idea, and great implementation!

The only thing missing for me is some SFX and effects/animations when a row gets cleared.
