How did you implement the Theme and Special Object?
Theme - It's a visual novel about a boy traveling to meet Santa! Very Christmas!
Special Object - Santa evoked the power of an anvil by having THE ANVIL HAMMER 2000 as his main weapon with an ability important to the story.

Anvil hammer 2000 was bugged in my case. It should be on STUD mode. Never the less, awesome game!

Developer

It displayed “HUNK” when I played it so idkkkkkk? ;)

Great job, very different from all of the other submissions. Well done.

I’m quirky like that.

One of the better games I've played so far for sure. The art and audio was top notch, and it was really unsettling at times. I wasn't a fan of the jokes though, I felt like you should have dedicated yourself more towards furthering the eeriness rather than subtracting from it with comic relief. Also, I'm not sure if this is intentional but early on the character says they seldom feel sharp pain in their feet. Seldom means not or don't but I got the impression the character actually did feel sharp pain, I could be wrong though. Overall a really nice creepy horror game and well made too.

PREACH.

Probably one of if not my favorite game so far from this game jam. I loved the humor (I also love Deltarune so its probably because of that) and thought it was extremely well written. You have a genuine talent for this sort of game and I hope you continue to make more games because this was just a lot of fun. Also I wanted to ask how did you create your dialogue system because I want to try to make one myself for my next one (I use Godot if that makes a difference). And the music considering on your twitter you made it in just a day which is extremely impressive.

Thank you! Also OMGGG HAHA so! As for the dialogue system, I actually failed to implement it in Godot after trying for 3 days. To finish this I switched to using Renpy. There were a bunch of VN tutorials for Godot 3.X that reads the dialogue from .json files but since I started my game on Godot 4 and it changed how reading .json behaves, I couldn't make it work.

The only weird thing I did with Renpy was adding the speaking sound. This isn't the best way to do it but with a limited time I simply made it play the sound as a loop whenever the text is still in the "showing" state. 2 bugs however is that it won't follow the pace of a slower text speed and if the player pauses the game while it's still showing then the sound will also be there.

(PS yes im the most musician of all time :3)

Very creative and nice story. I get an Undertale type vibe from the art style as well. Well made!

Developer

So I put one of the Omega Flowey faces onto Frisk... : r/Undertale

This visual novel is better then half of any visual novels I've ever played. I like the audio :D

Developer

Thx! And yeah, I'm most at home with audio stuff!

I'M GLAD YOU'RE SPOOKED.

The game really stands out from the other games at the jam. It has gorgeous graphics and an unusual plot.

Developer(+1)

TYSM! I tried to be quirky for fun haha.

Your game REALLY blows my mind.

I love the wild scenes in your game, and the weird sound effects inserted at just the right moments. The animation and sound of the 'hammer' hitting my character are like eating a whole spoonful of wasabi with vodka at the same time.

Such an impressive game!

Developer

"Eating a whole spoonful of wasabi with vodka at the same time" is a cool sound design idea I might just steal that in the future lmao.

Thanks, I know since I'm using Renpy and not good at programming that I should try to make it up from the art department which I'm more accustomed to. Music/Sound is my forte so I'm glad you like the SFXs.

Man, this was the very last I was expecting this jam, but I loved every second of it. Among the sea of uninspired flash games ('dodge the anvil but you're santa'; 'throw the anvil but you're santa'), suddenly there's a game that's not only genuinely unique and creative within the jam, it also turns out to be the game with the most unique art style I've ever seen in general. I'd even go so far as to call this game - dareIsayit - artistic.

Not only am I perplexed by every single creative step this game takes, it also makes me severely worried for what goes on in your brain - and that should be taken as a big compliment.

Props to you for actually making something so viciously unique.

Oh, and not to forget, you deserve to end up in the top 5 if only for the line "the seat cushion is an abstract art piece of my fat ass's curvature".

Anyway, thanks a ton I'm super stoked to hear that. It's only fair to mention that the inspirations for this were milk inside a bag of milk, Va11halla, and Daniel Mullins's storylines. I love narratives with eccentric characters and art that are not 100% pixel art. I'm still a newbie in writing and art but I hope to work on them further.
