The potato was too powerful for the killer to handle...

(1 edit)

Car's movement was solid, but overall, I did find getting temporary items every 20 scores quite repetitive. My initial gut was that I wished I could get those upgrades less often, but they're permanent. Although I must say that the sound design is fantastic. I find myself wanting to destroy everything in my path every chance I get even if it was kinda sussy.

The Rock's Eyebrow Raise

Man, this is quite a hard game! Managing between moving the car out of the obstacle's way and fixing the issues that pop up was tricky, haha! But that created a fun and hectic gameplay. I love the creativity in calling the game Helldriver; it's such a fun way of adding the Helldiver to an endless car game. My 2 critiques would be that I do feel like wanting the character to move faster and sometimes it was confusing whether I was still steering the vehicle or not.

Overall, great game!

Such an addictive and refined gameplay loop for a jam game. The overall aesthetic is coherent and cute as well. The game also felt very responsive and felt nice to play. Amazing work, no critiques here!

INSANEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE, this is my fav from the jam so far. The game, music, drawings, and everything were very charming, and the writing was very organic and well-done. You're super talented!

Very solid anomaly Exit 8 type game, my friend group loves this genre haha! I also really like the gallery system. The only critique is that I wish for many parts, it was easier to get back on the road. The driving feels nice as well. Great job for a week jam.

Thanks for playing! Yup, the direction you choose doesn't matter. We planned it that way because we thought we wouldn't have time, haha! I understand the typewriter comment for sure. My thought process was that it was funny in a random rawr xd way, but yeah, it kind of came out of nowhere.

YEAHHHHHHHH

Kob Kun Krab. ความจริงแล้วผมก็คนไทยครับถนัดพิมพ์อังกฤษเฉยๆ555

I've been playing this for like almost an hour. It's amazing. I love games like Earn to Die and Hill Climb Racing, and this ticks a lot of boxes for that. I was also surprised by the amount of content. I thought that for a week-long jam, it'd be over after the first car, but my jaws dropped when you got a second car with more places and packages lmaooo. Super amazing work

My critiques would be that I wish you had more control over tilting the car, especially mid-air. (I notice you could do that slightly, but disproportionate to the car's speed/momentum) IMO, that made the road RNG feel a bit out of my hands.

Again, very well done! I'll be patiently waiting for the next patch where I can rizz up Tulip, thank you.

Yooo, I like this gameplay a lot. It's quite addictive. This would put my oogabooga brain into overdrive if there were upgrades for the gun's firerate as well haha! The art and music are also nice. Wait, I just saw the granny stall. I DIDN'T GET ANY GRANNY STALLS.

Dang, I really want to git gud at this game, but I'm a bit confused about what you're supposed to do aside from holding left click to shoot at the enemies. THEY JUST WON'T DIE!!! I only get like 10 Baht a run haha! It'd take me 40 runs to get dat sweet damage upgrade.

Also not sure if the music is original but THEY ARE BUMPING.

This is a prime example of how to transcend video games as a medium and evolve into an art form. This is what humanity will zip and send out to deep space to spread our culture. On a serious note, that was fun. I love that you could play both in first and third person. A car with this wheel design would go hard in Dirt Rally 2, imagine the control.

...Although it could use some tuning for its right-turning capability.

Thanks a lot for playin!

PERFECT SCORE. THIS GAME IS AMAZING. LIKE THE ART AND THE GAME AND EVERYTHING. IT'S SO STYLISH. I especially love the drawings on paper textures; the flip-flopping of styles made the game interesting to look at. Petting the dog is dah best mini game. Also, THE AMEN BREAK-

The only critique is that the starting the car with your key mini game was confusing for me.

The distance of 400 km showcases my supremely great gaming skills. 💪💪💪I enjoyed the game, it got fun once I understood what you needed to do and how to deal with each thing. (If there was a tutorial, I didn't read it lol) Love the drawings as well, great work on this. Also, if there is a way to get rid of the ghost once she gets on, pls tell me.

My money could go negative at certain times, maybe from buying gas? And I'm not sure whether the speed limit was at 90 or 80, since I got fined every time I was driving around 85. Had to go under 80 haha.

Oh man, I'm not sure if I'm playing this correctly, but uhhh I like the snow clearing truck, and I just only use 1 of it and survive as long as possible with it like a Tetris marathon high score run lmao.

I really like your drawings and love how uniform the colors are. My only critique is that with how the road is laid out now, it's hard to read the white instructions/ui on top and bottom. They're still intelligible, though.

Gotta love dah baby mascot.

That was super fun! Loved all the mini games, and the graphics look nice. The only hiccup I had was the  "change the battery" mini game, took me a few tries to understand what I was supposed to do haha!

6,841 high score, that's... gotta be a world record or something, right? I'm already a pro at this. mm mm

That was a nice little story! Everything was smooth and worked well. I just wish I could look out the bus window, haha. It would be nice if the hand were a bit higher, too; the thumb blocked some of the friend's longer texts. Overall, it was a nice and polished short narrative experience. Very cool.
Also dang Jeremy, the drums on those tracks were bumpin'.

thank you!

Hmmm, I think the kick fits well but the snare and hat had a lot of high-frequency information that the piano doesn't have. I'd consider putting a low pass filter on them but if that doesn't sound good, try a vinyl VST like Izotope Vinyl or a tape one like CHOWTapeModel to tame the high end.   All of the percussions were significantly louder than melodic instruments, so perhaps you could lower them down and use sidechain compression for them to still cut through?

That was long haha sorry I just wanted to spitball some potential solutions that came to mind!

Yoo this is amazing. Although not 100% identical backward and forward (that's the actual C challenge haha), the song still sounded primarily good when reversed! It was dope how the click/kick, the chiptune synth, and the vox chop stayed the same. The melodic contents and rhythm still hold as well with the only thing getting wacky being the lead bell getting off-beat due to its decay.

Palindrome challenge aside, it's a very nice atmospheric track!

I'm seconding Jofes here, the risers take me out of the song since they were too sudden imo. The rest of the song is nice though, a simple but effective track. If I hear correctly, aside from the 2 risers, the reversed element is the synth at 0:38. It sounds good but does run by pretty quickly, I wished the reverse theme was more of a focused point!

It really means a lot to hear this. TYSM!

Thank u!

Okay, that melody was impressive sounding amazing both forward and backward. You've got some sick arrangement skillz!

The reversed part was very solid, it retained the melodic idea and I honestly wouldn't think it was a reversed audio if you isolate that for me to listen. More instruments and flourishes would be cool but I understand how that could be tricky with the challenge.

Super impressive submission! The first track blew me away. A lot of Super Challenge tracks tend to be a bit droning but yours felt like a full arrangement with sections that's evolving while also fulfilling the palindrome aspect.

Simply breathtaking ambiance. The reversed elements sounded natural. Heard quite a bit of ambient submissions but this one still jumps out to me. (and the cat cover helps too! i uhhh thought the cat was being eaten by a big creature with many rows of teeth or smth pls tell me thats not the case) The genre lends really well to this challenge and your execution is impeccable.

Bruh, honestly no critique here. A perfect submission for this challenge imo. I can imagine it being perfect for a lot of contexts, not just for games but as complimentary music for media in general. The tone is pleasant, the production is good, provides interesting textures. Like receiving a gentle ear massage.

The main synth for the first half was a bit mid-heavy and piercing IMO but I do appreciate that it sounds the same both forward and backward. Other than that, I love everything else. The percussions are full and other complimentary synths fill the space nicely.

I like how the DAW screenshot looks like a skull that fits the track haha!

The palindrome element here is cool and fits the B challenge perfectly. Don't hear metal in these jams very often so this was a refreshing submission. I especially love the bass and guitar tone. The only critique would be that I felt like wanting the drums to punch harder through the mix.

I LIKE IT. HUMAN MUSIC. This is a very solid track overall.  This could be due to the palindrome limitations but I do feel like wanting to hear more flairs/ear candies in the song because although the melody is different, the simple arpeggiated idea makes the sections sound similar.

These are some amazing unconventional ambiances. Can't stress how much I love the quirky percussions, I'm a sucker for the bit-crushed ones. This kind of sounds like if Suda51 made LSD simulator.

The reversed elements were a bit tucked back but both tracks are mellow and solid! I don't know how to explain this but...No Melon sounds more like a lemon? ...While No Lemon sounds like...melon? Wait the title says no so that's intentional right? Or is it not? Anyway, when live gives you melons you make lemons.

Impressive implementation of reversed sounds to complete the hardest challenge. It's pretty solid although a bit repetitive but that could be due to trying to make it a palindrome. My two critiques would be that the first song sounds a bit muddy, and the "antiparallel" chiptune synth sounds a tad dissonant. (it kind of ummm *coughs* remind me of crazy bus but just a lil bit yk only a lil bit)
