I really liked the fluidity of the animation and movement. The theme interpretation was unique, and the colour palette was beautiful. The sound fits perfectly. I had a bit of trouble clearing certain gaps, and I feel the level design could have used a little bit more work and nuance. A very fun game to play and pleasing to the eyeballs. Wonderful submission!
Thanks very much for your comment. The reason you probably had trouble with certain gaps was either you weren't using double jump (get at the end of lvl 2) or you were at an age where jumping is weaker. That's what I presume, anyway thanks for playing!
I really enjoyed how you implemented the theme, it's not exactly endless but it's still a cycle and that's more than what I can say for other games. It should be more than a simple restart button on your game and you've gone a bit beyond and actually required the player to start from the beginning after each life time to make progress in certain areas.
One slight thing that irked me a bit was the level design in some places didn't allow backtracking to a doorway because I missed a jump. There were a couple of times where I would have to sit and wait from 50-90 years old because there's nothing I can do in the area I was stuck in.
Awesome that you liked the game, there is a reset button listen in the controls for if you get stuck/miss a jump, it sends you back to the start at age 0 (keyboard Y/ controller Select) Hope that helps anyone else who comes across a similar problem!
Already dig your idea during the jam, and the actually implementation is really nice. I always know what Im supposed to do and how to do it. There was never a sense of lost in the game, really well done! I really like the aging effect on the graphics, such a nice touch. What I think could improve is a bit more depth and level design, now the game is quite linear and if you leave everything aside it is a platformer with time constraint. For example, I cant jump when being a baby, can only jump once being a kid, etc. I see potential here and I hope to see future development on the game post-jam. Very well done!
Thank you for the feedback! Much appreciated :)
This game is really really really fun, I love it, it's fast paced and fun, the music is catchy, and the visuals are flashy and good, I love it :D
Thank you very much for the amazing feedback!
Nice idea with the age mechanic! I got a bit stuck on level 3 i think it was, i jumped to the portal and it was locked so I jumped down the hole and it was just a dead end, dunno if I missed something, so I just waited to die of old age lol. Some of the sound FX were a bit loud, mainly the key pickup and the portal sounds. Great effort!
Thank you very much! The game was meant to be a bit convoluted! Confusing the first time you play for definite :P I have video on YT wehre I finish the entire game in less than 3 minutes! Here it is if you're interested!
life is short indeed. it is a fast passing game. how many levels are there?
I like the idea of aging and that you character change with every second.
There are 5 levels but you retain progress between them until you finish the game (progress meaning powers and keys) Here's a vid if you get stuck and are wondering how to complete it :) It's less than 2 and a half minutes long if you know what you're doing!
oh geeze that last part made me a little bit tripping
XD
Nice game, i really liked the idea of each second being a year and it changing your character stats and apearence too. I found the graphics super distracting, and the tileset really confusing i did not know what was a door and what was a wall got stuck like 10 minutes until i figured out there was a double jump upgrade! haha, nice entry!
That was originally gonna be a secret wall :P Then I realized it'd get people stuck so I tried to make it more obvious :P Thanks for the comment!
nice game, did I just get frozen to death at age 90...? Is it a bug or a feature? lol. Cool concept! Would be a top notch puzzler on mobile if you kept working on it!
"Is it a bug or is it a feature"
Definitely a bug, does hitting the reset button fix it? I got so fast at playing through the game I never reached old age, I just killed myself whenever I needed to go back to progress!
Very cool idea of having life be age, and also feels achieving to unlock previous areas. Tutorial related, I didn't quite figure out could double jump until I saw things that looked impossible to jump. Overall, unique and fun concept!
The double jump (purple arrow power-up) was originally super hidden, then I realized that I had to make it more obvious or people would get stuck! Since it is in fact required to finish the game (unlike the speed boost (blue arrow) ). Glad you enjoyed it!
My life is just stuck in a corner, being mocked by the spinning spikes at every turn.
Lol never seen that one before, good job on finding a bug I never found! (Too late to fix it now!) If you get stuck press keyboard Y (or select on your controller) to force die!
I loved this game! The concept was super innovative. I can't see how this relates to the theme though. Other than that, this would be a stellar game if fleshed out even more.
Thanks for the nice comment, the idea of the game tying into the theme was through the death and rebirth of your character and the cycle of life, that's how I took it to mean. But thank you!
Ah. I guess I didn't realize that upgrades persist through death. In that case, no complaints whatsoever.
Music was pretty darn good.
Felt like age was fighting against me. Which is probably the point. So good job.
Game worked as described.
