RIGHTEOUS RESURRECTION!

this is a very charming game!

Developer

Thank you Stella! xD

Submitted(+1)

this is going into my Jim Jam 2 gems. seriously for your first game you deserve some respect for it.I think if fix some of these bugs like glitch platforming and make some more random patterns this game can become you first good game for your portfolio.

Developer

Wow, thanks bud! Means a lot! :D which glitch platforming bug do you mean? do you have an example? I may try and patch up the game and add a few features post jam :)

Submitted(+1)

sometime if I jump and land on the ground or on a platform the snake make a little bump.  it happens when two colliders overlap. and because it is unity it want to fix it by bumping the snake a little bit up so that the snake doesn't get stuck into the ground.I don't know if the fix is by changing something in the rigidbody component or in script.

Developer(+1)

Oh i see what you mean! Yeah I left the colliders set to discrete as it seemed to work okay, I guess I could set the one on the snake to continuous to improve the detection of the ground. Thanks :)

I liked the inertia when moving a lot. Something really satisfying about being able to catch the edge of a platform and 'roll over' it if you don't quite make it. Air control as somebody else said would be great, i'd like to be able to jump the one cube platforms without having to go back and forth for the momentum. I really liked the graphical work too! That parallax :) Would also be nice to go and backtrack to a previous section. Bit more of an invincibility window after death would be good too. Great submission!

Developer

Thanks for your feedback dude! Appreciated :) I agree with your comments too!  The "going back" thing was kinda done on purpose as I'm actually destroying the level as you move along to stop the performance bottoming out, since the level is infinite, if you do well it could get slower as you go along xD

Submitted(+1)

Clever solution! I didn't realise it was infinite exactly! Great work again :)

Developer (1 edit)

Yeah xD The entire level is being prog gen'd from 6 premade chunks, so as you move forward in the level, it randomly spawns in another piece of level and the oldest one gets destroyed :) That was part of my "theme" having an infinite level xD

Submitted(+1)

I didn't catch that my bad! Nice feature!

Developer

Thanks dude xD

Sweet game!  Only thing I could suggest is a little bit of air control when you're mid-jump.  Just enough to dodge an enemy or move a bit forward if you're stopped.  Otherwise, really great concept, and a very enjoyable play experience.

Developer(+1)

Thanks Jay! The control scheme was pretty much designed to make you use your own momentum to jump forward, I know this can be annoying when you die and get stuck on an enemy though so I was considering adding temporary invulnerability for that.  I guess I could add a little bit of air momentum, but it wouldn't be a lot though as I don't think it fits the control scheme, might make it too easy which could make it boring :) But thank you for your feedback!

Invincibility would definitely work for enemies.  I was also thinking of when you're next to a wall you want to get on top of.  Being able to move those few pixels to get to the top would make all the difference.  You make a good point though, you definitely don't want to have it spoil the momentum mechanics.

Great music and I loved the momentum mechanic. It was fun and added a nice twist to the platforming genre. Levels were interesting for (iirc from the stream?) being procedurally generated-ish. Great job.

Developer

Thank you for your feedback! I appreciate it! :) Yes the levels are procedurally generated from 6 premade chunks of level and they spawn in as you move through the level :)

Really cool game, you need some time to get used to the controls, but when you get it's cool to play, i liked the "can't move in the air" mechanic, but the level design doesn't fell to fit this type of control, i die a lot because i can't get enough distance on jump, but later you get used to it and manage to progress normaly.

Amazing music, fits a lot the "desert" feel, sound used when die really cool too.

Developer(+1)

Thank you for your feedback! It's appreciated!

Damn, i feel bad saying this after reading all this comments, but i did not like it =S
The controls are too cluncky, i understand that maybe you were going for a "super hard" feeling, but it is not for me sorry. Sounds and music were great tho.

Developer

That's fine dude :) It's not for everyone! Thank you for your feedback! Really appreciate it!

Honestly i got pretty mad at the beginning and kinda rage quit lol, after some hours i came back and managed to do way better, up to 110 points. Still i would love to have at least a little bit more air control, specially for when you die and you respawn almost besides an enemy.

I know this was your first game so i apologize if i was too blunt in the first comment =S

Developer

to be honest, if i was to continue this, i would add temporary invulnerability (and disable the colliders) for about a second so you have time to escape the dire situation you find yourself in xD

Submitted(+1)

At first I was very ragey but then it got very relaxing and I became in a trance of score.  I can see how you implemented theme of Ouroboros of not only Egypt but have player in infinite trance.  The score must go higher!

Developer

Thanks dude xD I intended it to be a score grinder, so I think mission accomplished!

Thanks for your feedback!

Game's nice. It's one of those annoyingly hard games like flappy or get over it. It definitly needs some more work though. Your game sucks, 10/10.

Developer(+1)

Lol thanks man xD

Rated, just had to switch browser to make a comment lol! If you wanna see my thoughts see my comment on the game's page but all in all great job on your first game!

Developer(+2)

Saw your comments! Really appreciate the feedback, thank you!

Lovely music and sound effects. I appreciated the technical side of the game: the controls with momentum of the snake and the level proc gen. At around 100 points the levels start to look a like, like I know bits and pieces of the map and how to get pass them so that helped to get further in the game too. I ended my 3rd run with 220 points, and it was when I don't think there is anything else I can learn to be better at this game. That said, Im curious if my score makes it to the leaderboard haha. Overall, great work for your first game jam refraction!!

Developer(+1)

Thanks bud! Really appreciate the feedback! Yeah the game could have done with more level chunks being designed to extend the life of it and reduce repetitiveness but I got lazy :P

Thanks again!

Atmosphere 10 outta 10
Hit the theme on the neck with the player

Cool controls

Developer(+1)

Thanks dude! Appreciated!

The game is interesting, overall fun. The control of the snake is neat!

Developer(+1)

Thanks for your comments! Really appreciated :)

Music was thematic and catchy.

The sound effects were hilarious.

The game was hard.  Seemed like the rolling had some inertia which was a nice touch.

Developer(+1)

Thanks man! Yeah the game is a bit tough at times xD
