As soon as I saw your game, I knew I wanted to play it. I streamed all games from this jam and yours was the last one I finally made it to late Sunday night before the deadline. And boy was it a final submission to go out on! Thank you for making such a funny and unique idea on the theme. Love the Mortal Kombat throwback progression screen. There were so many details about this game that made it feel fleshed out and built with passion. The music, the upgrade system, the visuals, the characters, the ability to choose a harder opponent, the voice lines... I had one thought that maybe if the crowd started to chant if someone had low enough health might make the fights feel even more intense. And having a different song for the final boss. But I truly had a good time live streaming this and it's a well-deserved high ranking. Congrats on the 4th place!!

Thank you so much for your post!

I watched your stream recently (sadly didn't have the chance to catch you live).  It was such a special moment to see you playing and enjoying our game. Your positive energy really made me smile, and I really appreciate the effort you put in to playing everyone's games as well as leaving kind yet well-thought-out feedback.

Thank you again. I hope to see more of you again in the future :)

Really nicely presented fighting game. There might be some issues with input registry (punches and kicks would sometimes not happen despite using keys). Absolutley nails the 90's arcade fighter style. Great Job

Developer

Thanks so much for playing!

That’s strange, we’ve not had anyone have any input issues as of yet. There is a feature whereby if you run out of stamina, you’re locked out of blocking and/or punching. Could it have been that?

Admittedly, we rushed that in pretty late - so it’s very poorly documented in game :(

Ahh, perhaps it was that then. Maybe the solution is to clarify that when out of stamina you are locked out of certain actions. Thanks for clarifying. All the same the stamina does help make the game more unique and make the player have to think more about their actions, so despite it being added late in development, I think it's a good addition.

I love it!! I cackled as soon as I saw the screenshots, it's so damn funny xD It kinda has a DOS game vibe to it, which brought me back to my childhood.

Really fun. I'll add some thoughts here.

  • It's working smoothly
  • I really like the stamina system, it's a great way to balance out the game and add some strategy to it
  • Cool progression system that feels rewarding
  • I like the voices
  • It's has everything it needs. Options, Instructions, and a Game Over screen. That makes a lot of difference.
  • The side movement feels a bit slow
  • I would expand the fighter collider a bit so they aren't able to get so close to each other
  • I would take the instructions from the  ( ? ) in the corner and put it on the main menu at the middle, or maybe make them appear when you start, becase I've missed them completely the first time.

Thanks so much for the long and well thought out feedback! Really appreciate you taking the time. Also glad you saw the humour in this, haha. We really enjoyed working on this -  and had a good giggle when we first got the arms and legs working together.

Thanks for playing! :)

I want a boss battle with 69

Wow, that's awesome. Definitely full 5 stars for theme and innovation. If that's not "strength in numbers", what is^^

Also pretty nice graphics style and cool soundeffects, even with voice-overs.

Just Endboss 8 was too hard for me unfortunately :-D

I also appreciate that you made it playable windowed and in fullscreen and even made the keybindings customizable (because the default ones would be a bit strange on a german keyboard^^)

All in all congrats to a great entry!

Ahh thank you for the kind words! This was our first experience with Godot - we struggled a lot getting to a point where the end boss was achievable, but also distinctly difficult. Through all our testing we've only managed to beat it a handful times, haha.

Glad to hear the keybindings came in handy! Jaydox made a point to make this as accessible as possible, so he'll be very happy to hear it came in handy.

Thanks again for playing - and congratulations on your super fun entry!

Thanks for playing! :)

Hey all!

We hope it'll be apparent how we've implemented the theme, but just in case - you are a number, who must grow their strength to beat the other numbers, and become the Number Fighter Champion. We like to take things literally here ^^

We hope you enjoy our game :)

EDIT: Moments before submitting, one of our developers accidentally pushed some game-breaking changes that were causing the game to crash on load. We've since reverted and submitted the correct version (a little late...) - we're really sorry about that!
