There's a lot of things to do in this game. I like the little surprises you can find, like the ability to swim without your ship, the joy of a tentacle hug, etc. And I never wished for sound effects more than the grog drinking game, I think that would be epic! :P
That was a lot fun, I tried a couple of the minigames, I died because I spilled the grog and I killed an enemy captain in a sword fight, the animations were really smooth for a 64x64 game. Like some other said when you travel in the open sea is hard to know whats going on because all the water tiles are the same.
Funny how sea-faring pirate life comes to mind when you're limited to 64x64 pixels, right? :D
This is really fun. I love the look of the pirates. Not a huge fan of mixed pixel sizes but it seems to be working here. Quite a unique look. Treasure digging minigame is really cool!
Quite nice to explore the map and play the mini games! :-D
Had a lot of fun with this game! I loved exploring the world to see what was stashed around. It could benefit from a tutorial each time the mechanics change. Also I wish every other ocean tile was a different shape or maybe color so that as you move through open sea, you can tell your boat is moving. Those are my only gripes. Love how you fit a full world to explore in 64x64 px.
It's nice to see a game with exploration in this jam, I think this is 2nd or 3rd. It was a nice journey, although I died everytime I fough, but ok ahahah. The only thing missing the sound, the rest is great. Good Job!
PS: If you have the time, please try out my entry https://itch.io/jam/lowrezjam-2018/rate/293637 (don't forget to rate it : ) )
Cheers
Blimey this game does a lot. Lots of primary colours in the graphics, so it feels very retro, not that that's a bad thing. I got murdered by the barman for spilling all the grog, though :)
Followed your progress on twitter, but controls don't seem to work for me in browser? I can't move the boat with the arrow keys? (Haven't rated yet until I can play)
That's interesting... tried clicking a few times in the game window in case it's a focus issue?
Beyond that, which browser? I exclusively tested in Chrome, though I've just checked IE11 and it worked fine after clicking the game window a couple of times.
Failing that, which O/S? It was made in GameMaker Studio 2 so I could export a native Windows or Linux build easily enough. Mac would be a bit more painful, but doable too.
Yes, it was a focus issue. All fine now and am enjoying the game. I really like the fact there are different mini-games within the game. Would be nice to add a name to the pirate or some kind of story at the start to set the scene of who I am, maybe? But that's time-consuming and just extra flavour I suppose. Well done, I'll continue to enjoy coming back to this game to play and any updates should you work on it post-jam. Well done.
Fantastic :) Was hoping it was just something simple like focus! Hadn't tested it much until after submitting it - which is slightly backwards, I know - so was worried it was some really obscure bug!
I am hoping to try and get back to this and add in some of the bits I missed out, but we'll see. Finding time can be a tricky thing to do.
Thanks for playing!
