Interesting idea! I included it in my LOWREZJAM compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look. :)
Cute little game, Jimmy!
It was fun seeing me & all the rats/skeletons doing a weird, funky dance on my screen.
(Tho, I don't think I was very good at it - only managing scores of 6 or 7!)
Hope you manage to finish the last little bits some day.
Congrats and all the best in the Jam! 😉👍
I like the base idea of this - once I understood what I was doing. I'd love to see this expanded on!
Thanks, Mistodon! I will be doing _something_ with this at a future date.
It is pretty hard to figure out how to interact with enemies at this stage and the gameplay got a bit stale after I did that. I really liked the track and how you based it on more complex idea of 3-3-2 where player moves in bot 3's and the enemies just at the first. Instead of a regular 4/4 like in the Crypt Of The Necrodancer. I liked the overall feeling of "eat things to the beat". Cool game Tiger!
Also where did you get that idea of moving sprites to the beat. It is pretty rad I should say. Did anyone did it before?
I had a few people make references to the Crypt of the necrodancer. I have never seen or played it myself and hushed anyone from telling me details because I was worried it would create impurities for my project if I was aware of similar possible influences.
The idea for having sprites move to the beat seemed to be the easiest way for me to utilize koreographer in a 2d experience. This game was mainly a project to push me into learning Ableton and koreographer. Any actual fun from it is wonderful.
Thanks for noticing the beat movement difference. I had to find a way to make it interesting for the player. As I playtested when each character moved at he same time I realized it wasn't as fun as if I, as the player, could move a little faster. Prototyping the change quickly proved to be a better experience and I stuck with it. I only had about 6 hours to work on this game during the jam so a lot of parts were rushed. Thanks for your feedback!
You forgot to include the ".pck" for the Linux build
I was not able to play the game, I quote from my console on linux:
Set current directory to /home/toddy/downloads/lowrezjam
Found path: /home/toddy/downloads/lowrezjam/DancingDungeonLinux.x86_64
no boot config - using default values
(Filename: ./PlatformDependent/LinuxStandalone/main.cpp Line: 479)
Sorry, I don't have a linux partition at the moment to test. I'll try to reply with an update soon.
Very cool game, i love the game name ;). The gameplay work. Good Job.
Thanks a ton Iron. :)
