Did you work in a team?
Solo! It was a very fun experience. I learned a TON.

Was the resolution a challenge?
Lowrez definitely presented a challenge. I knew from the start that I wanted to create a turn-based battle game. I looked to old Game Boy games and smartphone apps for inspiration. Single-tasking/focusing was key. I tried to keep margins and padding to a minimum and also make use of UI overlays.

What did you learn?
I worked for nine days and then started over from the beginning. I took all that I had learned in those first nine days and was able to recreate a better version in just one day. Following that, I created a list of improvements I'd like to implement and spent another day working on those.

This was my first from-scratch game built in Godot. I learned a LOT about signals and yields. Very excited to use all my new skills in another upcoming game jam!

That's a good start, maybe you can throw in something like a time based event? :O

Developer

yeah, thanks for the suggestion! Definitely considering expanding the project scope

Your game has the most readable text at this low resolution that I’ve seen yet! Also I beat the ninja…but it was close. Great job!

Congrats on the win! And thanks for the kind words

A simple game that hit a lot of areas of game-making. The UI is actually pretty cool for how simple it is. Gameplay is nothing crazy or new, but you got the whole experience in there. I've tried using Godot before and really couldn't get the hang of it... so grats on making something in the tool!

Thanks! It’s my first from-scratch project in Godot. There’s certainly a learning curve. Appreciate the comments!

This triggers my GB Pokemon nostolgia pretty good. Very clear and clean design. Great job!

One tip for doing a typewriter effect in text boxes in Godot: Instead of adding one letter at a time, put the whole text at the start, and slowly increment `visible_characters`. It will have the same visual effect, but keep the correct word-wrapping.

Glad you enjoyed it, and thanks for the tip! I’ll try it out!
