Did you work in a team?
We are the excess musicians from the discord channel. Everyone contributed a track.
Juzek (Doug T)
Mr. Funkyland
Ferkeshu
Mister Minister Master
Luxon
Musician Cognito (Jamie Whitmarsh)

Was the resolution a challenge?
a little tricky. I had a conversion table for Unity's nebulous "Units", and I'm not entirely sure it worked perfectly. Community advice is great.

Bigger hurdles were fighting with WebGL and the things it flat-out ignores, and keeping the timing of the game with the music.

What did you learn?
Unity has no idea what time it is, nor what sounds its playing.
also, music is cool. and everyone was able to do such unique things.

Neat game! I included it in my LowRezJam compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look. :)

I love rythm games! Playing with the arrow keys is hard for me x3

Fun submission - I enjoyed all of the tracks! I was wishing for a slightly higher frame rate at some of the more intense parts, but other than that, impressive work!

Wooo, I really enjoyed it! Just out of curiosity, did you have to map "by hand" the sounds with the arrows? Good job anyway!

In the browser it's not perfectly synced sometimes but I can't download it because I'm on Linux XD

thanks!  WebGL sucks.

I used a brute force method for the arrow mapping. A big spreadsheet with a row for each subdivided beat and an 'X' in four columns labeled left, right up, down. It used some logic to spit out an if statement. " If the beat is beat# 147, create a left and right arrow" and just copied and pasted that in a script. I'm sure something more elegant exists.

As someone who loved flash flash revolution back in the day, I LOVE this game. Also I really like that your team was the 'excess musicians' from the discord. I think the difficulty is perfect, although I may be biased since I play a lot of rhythm games.

My favorite track was JackLuxon's track!

Also, as someone whose done some rhythm game-adjacent stuff in Unity, I'm really impressed at how well this plays. Unity doesn't make it super easy to sync stuff to a beat precisely, so I was really happy at how responsive it felt (I played the downloadable version).

Great work!

thanks for playing.

"Does anybody know what time it is? Does anybody care?" - Unity

I love DDR! this is a pretty cool retro take on it! my only big complaint is it was a bit difficult to tell when to hit the beat right. it seems sometimes the arrows didn't sync up properly or you would have to hit it right above or early before your UI arrow. Not a big issue but took a bit of practice to figure out the timing.

Rythem games are pretty hard to accomplish so great job in the use of rhythm music and your limitations!

Developer

thanks for trying it out! just curious, were you playing the download or the browser? It syncs better in the download

Awesome music and great idea for the small resolution!

being a rhythm game enthusiast, I was definitely intrigued by this game! the music is wonderful, and the color palette/visuals are very nice. the controls however were VERY tricky for me since I'm not used to using arrow keys for DDR style games ^^; I'm more used to something like DFJK, but that's less something wrong with the game and moreso just my personal experience with rhythm games. the framerate(?) was also something to get used to as it was difficult to tell when exactly the notes were coming, but I was able to mostly get the hang of it after the first song.

overall this was very well done, and I did still have a lot of fun playing it, good job! 👏👏👏

Thanks for playing!

I have the arrows moving on the beats only, so its easier to feel it when the game is synced nice. The download syncs so much nicer than the web browser, and has fun lighting effects too! It's been a few years since I've played any rhythm games, so I'm not at all surprised I am using a non-standard control scheme. I had my wife playtest it when it was done, and she was like " ... ummm. but the arrows go UP in DDR, and they never have more than 2 at once", I completely forgot! Too late now.

pretty cool idea for a lowrez game! I wish there would have been a score, but the music was fantastic!

I couldn't get a decent text to work, so I included a purple bar at the bottom beneath the yellow bar. The purple bar gives a percentage of successes, and would fill up the whole bottom of the screen at 100%

could you post images of your game so i know what i am downloading or playing.

thank you

Done!
