Very cute game! I included it in my LowRezJam compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look. :)
Thanks! :-)
This is simultaneously one of the more and least polished games I've played here!
It looks good visually and the sound effects fit pretty well, but it definitely is a little buggy as well. My only real complaint though is that enemies do way too much damage. Bats can kill you in two hits usually, but its impossible to aim up/diagonally so most times killing a bat was a suicide run.
This is a cute game though, and I really like the aesthetic :)
Thanks!
Nice to try the actual result on what I was following through PICO-8’s Discrod. Level design is good and core mechanics are in place. It’s a bit rough in the edges, true, but a nice little game altogether. I would suggest you to work a bit more on this version and fix some of the issues present (f.e. when you die your pistol still “lives and moves” for a while, it can even activate checkpoints ;) ) . In is important to pay attention to that sort of details to improve the gaming experience of the players. Once you round up things in this version you would have a simpler transition to a more complex engine like Godot. Well done and waiting to see where this prototype goes and other future projects you put up!
Thanks! Thinking of sometime this week implementing those fixes to this week. The reason that happens is that because I wanted other objects around the game to move while the player is dead so I had it where the player couldn't control Oliver and make him invisible. However, I failed to take into account of all the other things related to the character so I fix those soon when I have the time.
great job! I think a little more juice in the game would go a long way to conveying a bit more information - in addition i think some things like being able to drop down the platform you're on would also help make the game a little smoother. Overall this was a lot of fun and a great entry! the music was very pleasant!
So much conveyed with so few pixels. You did a great job of making distinct areas in such a small space. There was a little bit of jank in some platforming and shooting, but it mostly felt fine. More feedback on some things would've been great. Checkpoints for example give no indication they've been activated. Some neat concepts were well executed in here though - colour coding the levers, hiding shootable blocks where the player is likely to shoot. Overall very charming despite it's flaws. I'd gladly play a larger version of this.
Thanks for the feedback! Sorry for some jankness. Was planning having more enemies and features but where ultimately scrapped because of time. Glad to see you would play a larger version of this. May do that one day ounce I learn Godot.
