I thought the visuals and the sound effects were awesome! Every time I heard the “do do” jaws-y voiced effect I couldn’t help but smile or chuckle!

That said, I really didn’t like the controls. The movement control was fine, but the firing control was very unintuitive. I was “moving” left or right on the right thumb stick to shoot up and down. There didn’t appear to be a way for me to shoot left or right. I continuously got confused with the right thumb stick. Also, when in a tense moment, I have a tendency to press down on the left thumbstick, which continued to pause the game on me at a very bad moment.

I also was having the worst time with the green shooty blobs. They don’t seem to have any limit to the directions they can shoot. Given how many of they there are in just the first level, it made the first level extremely frustrating to me. In my opinion, these blobs should only be able to shoot strait in the direction they’re pointed, or, only have a limited firing arc. That scientist in the first level sitting between two of those blobs… grrrr! (yes, I know I could destroy the blobs, but, again, too many blobs on top of the hard time I was having with the firing controls.

Over all, like I said, the game looks and sounds wonderful! I really think more time needed to be spent on figuring out a control scheme. Personally, I also strongly think there should have been keyboard controls. There wasn’t anything about this game that couldn’t have been done with a keyboard.

Thanks so much for playing it on your stream. Sorry for the delay but I had a 14hour work day followed by a 10 hour one. Day off today :)

I'm sorry about the problems you encountered. The right stick should fire in the direction it's pushed. Not sure why you had problems tbh. Some incompatibility with certain gamepads or something? Pressing the left or right stick - ie to fire - isn't programmed to pause the game. Only the START button is used for that. So don't know what to say :/

The green shooty blobs... yeah, I did think about limiting the LOS angle, but decided against it because then it'd be easy to sit to the side and destroy them. That's fine, but I wanted it to be a hard game. I realise now that I may have given them too many health points.

The ironic thing about the controls is I usually do my games requiring keyboard and mouse. This one would've been a decent play with that control scheme. However..... I only recently bought a gamepad to do gamedev (FINALLY after all these years without one). So for me when I spotted this gamejam, I thought it was perfect.

I left most crap til the last minute. I didn't even think about audio until the last 3-4 hours left before the deadline.

I've gained much gamedev XP from the comments and streams on my game. So thank you for your contribution to my levelling up sometime in the far future ;p

The pixel art is fabulous and the premise simple yet engaging. I found it difficult to play but I assumed the difficulty was meant to be hard!

Developer

Thank you! Yes it was meant to be difficult, but from what I've seen from other people playing it, it was never meant to be THAT hard :}

Really well executed pixel art and unique game mechanics as well.  As you know from the stream I'm a dumb dumb and didn't realize you could fire with the right analog stick even though your description clearly calls it a twin stick shooter.  Really enjoyed playing it and will be playing again for sure.

hahah nah I clearly didn't explain things. Watching you play taught me that. Glad you liked it and thanks a lot for checking it out. Gonna check yours shortly. Few things to do first.

This game seems very difficult to me. The pixel art and sound effects are incredible though. Your water shader for the background does break the 64x64 pixel limit though. Still one of, if not the best looking game I have played in the jam so far.

Developer

Aww nice one! The scrolling was terrible and dizzying unless I enabled subpixel movement. There are a few graphical glitches from that so.... can't win :D Thanks for checking it out. I'll check yours shortly :)

Very nice game, visually it’s very appealing and in general quite fun to play. I love the “Jaws” effect ;)

Thanks for playing. Glad you liked it :)
