I learned that I should go with my gut. I have a good sense of scope, and as long as I'm making the game fun, I'm doing my job.

I thought the jankier elements of this game actually made it a lot of fun. Clipping through walls adds a sense of wonder to the exploration, and being able to mash the attack button to attack as fast as you can during battles made me laugh every time. The character and enemy design is super charming too. Excited to see what you make next!

🙌 Yes! Thank you so much for playing!

The idea of an open-world adventure game is pretty neat, looking forward to how you will polish it up, as at the moment to.me it feels like more of a tech demo as a full game.

If intended for the second, then I think more interactables on the map and maybe some way to get clues on where to go would be nice.

Nice little base you have here, looking forward if you plan to expand it.

Thank you for playing! It was a big scope issue and I cut it short too soon to account for game loop stuff. 🤷🏻‍♂️

I’m moving to tic-80 for more space (sprites and map) and am using the stage mechanic to sort of zoom in from a bigger world, much more like Final Fantasy.

I don’t think an open world RPG is impossible at a low rez. More development to come on that front for sure. Eager to see others try as well.

Very smart to include that map on the game page, it was quite helpful! Quite a large game world that you laid out to explore. I was able to skip or kind of glide through most walls by simply walking backwards and to the side, so it made exploring maybe a bit MORE free than intended:) I hope to eventually finish a project in pico-8 one day, so I always love checking out others games in it.  I saw your post on the discord, so I'm glad I was able to come by and check it out.

Thanks for playing! Yeah it was my first time making a full collision system. It ended a little jank, but sliding through walls adds to the fun! Haha

Congrats for such a big gameworld!

Thanks! Thinking of how to make an even larger open-world game in pico 8 next.
