It was great fun watching the buildings get destroyed but it did lag terribly when it happened. The movement felt a bit slow but the mouse sensitivity seemed really high, but some of that was probably down to the lagging after hitting a building. Try breaking the buildings into larger or different sized blocks, a building made up of 10x10x10 cubes with a size of 1 is 1000 rigid bodies all created in an instance, where as the same building made up of 5x5x5 cubes with a size of 2 is only 125. What you could then do is have some of the larger cubes break again under high impact creating a similar effect with a bit more variety without maxing out the CPU.
Thanks for the feedback! Your Idea for the destruction is really interesting and I can see how that would really help performance!
Destroying the towers is very satisfying!
Thank you for the feedback!
The aesthetic is nice! It could definitely use more variation in terms of movement, however. A dash or slope-influenced movement could probably help against the slowness of the game as a whole. Impressive that three levels managed to be finished though!
Thanks for the feedback! I agree a dash would have been nice to add!
Awesome that you have a tutorial for a jam game :) Hover mech is looking great.
The destruction is great fun and I really like the chain reactions you can pull off
Cool that you have different environments to play in too! Though I was hoping I could blow up the big alien towers too :D (Maybe I missed something)
It was fun watching you develop this in the Discord during the jam, really amazing work for your second game jam ever! My total damage was 8100
Thanks for the feedback! I agree it would have been cool to be able to destroy the big towers but I added those late into development for some variety and did not think to make them destructable.
The floaty-ness of the jumping got a little on my nerves, but my personal preference with games about destroying things in a timelimit is a certain amount of skill-based speed. Basically, I started chomping at the bit waiting for the mech to fall where I aimed it. I did discover you can just walk into blocks, but there again the walking was too slow for me and I couldn't find a way to "run" or otherwise speed up.
I believe I would've enjoyed the game if it was just a bit faster and/or had a few more movement options. I liked the electronic soundtrack, the sounds you had are solid (I didn't even get sounds in mine), and the assets all look good. I especially liked the tall towers in level 1, and was a little disappointed I couldn't find a way to smash them.
Thanks for the feedback! I agree that the jumping is a bit floaty but the idea was the more velocity you got when jumping onto a building the wider the spread so it could hit other buildings, as I was putting the game together I found out that it was luck if it would actually spread.
I noticed other buildings occasionally getting destroyed and wasn't sure if that was on purpose. Neat!
Yep, if a few bits of rubble collide with another it will start a chain.
It's a shame, it's not installable through itch io app on windows.
great idea. i like the sounds but every time i destroy a black cube it gets laggy. Maybe you should spawn less particles and in level 1 thought one can destroy the huge buildings but one cannot. They are a bit misleading.
Thanks for the feedback! I agree with what you are saying about the destruction and level 1 if I had more time I would have made the towers more readable.
