Just read. Here are a few thoughts:

  • The cover art is great! AND ANOTHER BRANDON SANDERFAN! +1
  • Funny enough, the tone of this reminds me of Eric Scholes work. Nice.
  • Love the heroes and their illustrations. The description of the Death Oath is AWESOME and sets tone amazingly well.
  • Both your mundane skills, archetypes, and boons are GREAT!!!
  • The entire sample adventure... wow. Dude this is awesome. And the fact that you have one was a great use of your time.

I generally don't like RPGs that feel so railroad-esque but this is easily one of my favorite entries from the Jam. AMAZING JOB!!!

Hey, thanks!

  • I love Brandon Sanderson.
  • I’m not sure who Eric Schole is, and google was no help 😅
  • Thanks, most of my time was spent working on both the visual tone and the tone of the writing, so I’m glad it resonated so much.
  • I like the mundane/archetype/boon trio as well, but I feel it’s missing something.
  • The sample adveture... again, I’m glad that you like it, but I feel it would have benefited from a good few editing passes, but only so much can be done in 48h I guess.

I’m sorry I’m only now responding to your comment, but I’ve been busy with school this past week or two. I wish I had had time to include a more detailed review of everyones work, but I only managed to read through everything and give ratings.

Anyway, I’m glad that you liked the game, and thank you for the review. It’s a great boon (heh) to know which parts resonated so much.

Great work!

I usually go for sandbox-y, old-school type games, and this competition has really opened my eyes to the possibilities of more structured, narrative-based games, especially for single sessions. The turn based mechanic, timer die, and trials die all mesh together well to make a very coherent, clearly structured game.

I'm really impressed, well done again!

Hey, thanks for the kind words!

I can’t take all the credit - the timer die/mechanic I stole from Runehammer (ICRPG). I just made it a core part of the game, and built the whole turn structure around it. I would definitely like to playtest, and flesh out the system more. I think it would benefit from a bit more structure, but one can only do so much in 48h.

Thanks again! I look forward to reviewing your submission, and will let you know what I think when I do 😁

don't get too excited - I was unable to finish it, and conceptually it's much less original than your submission (and that of most of the games in this jam). But don't mention it: the kind words were well-deserved.

Wow - you got a lot done in those 48 hours! :)

Thanks, I’ll take it as compliment!

One downside of doing so much is that I had time for only one editing pass, and not even a thorough one. I reused some assets from past projects, and about half the drawings are ones I’ve done before, and just repurposed for this.

I hope you liked the game 😊

Definitely meant as a compliment - sorry if that wasn't clear. Great work :)
