Pretty nice, I liked the overall visuals and it fit the theme pretty well. I ran into an instance though where I collected an upgrade and I left the room before I obtained it and it seemed to have soft locked me from progressing as I couldn't get it anymore.

Comments on the jam
Even in a 1 month long gamejam I'll still run out of time. I'll work on it some more in the future. The monochromatic theme was really good at directing me to a specific style.

This is a cool project! I reached the flow while playing.
The green monochrome style is ripping out my eyes.
I love how new abilities are gradually acquired.
Unobvious controls, I had to clarify on the game page.
The whip does not hit enemies through the blocks, but the animation reaches them.
Strange, but the fountain does not restore life, although the opposite is written.
And of course the sounds would increase the immersion
The game is really interesting and the difficulty factor is quite right in my opinion. I really enjoyed playng it. It took me some time to get used to the controls when it comes to attacking enemies because of the down arrow = forwards, but everything else is intuitive. I love the pixel art and the artstyle used, it is complex yet simple, understandable and just the right amount of pixels and colours to make it not overwhelming but pleasent to look at. Would love to see more of your games, maybe even a sequel to this one.
This is a very pretty game! Love the pixel aesthetic! There's a couple issues, including one that made it so I couldn't get past a certain point:
- Some of the room transitions put you in weird spots in the rooms you go back into. Notably, going back to the room with the first mushroom enemy from below, and going back towards the first beetle enemy room (I think, the latter one might be after that).
- You might want to note somewhere that when interacting with the fountain, you should click on the options, as I didn't realize the mouse was a part of the game, being all keyboard controls up until then.
- I got stuck in the room with the two beetles, when you more or less first encounter them. I cannot jump high enough to attack them and the room seals up until they are defeated. Did I miss an ability somewhere that lets you jump even higher than the double jump?
- the collision on the vine whip and sometimes the firebolt is a bit arbitrary, as they tend not to always connect with the enemies you hit
Aside from that, the controls are very tight and responsive, the aesthetic is really pretty, and I particularly like the beetle enemies, I think you nailed the timing and speed of their attack!
I have replayed it and got all the way to the end! I think this game has a lot of potential, should you choose to increase its scope. I only have three issues to note:
- There are still entrances/transition zones that don't place you in the right spot in the room you are going to. The most notable example is in the room with Nature's Wrath, when you exit that room, the game spawns you in the ceiling of the next room. Walking left until you fall out of the ceiling fixes it.
- The first time I got to the hag, I hit her with a firebolt before the fight started proper and the game just kind of froze in place
- When I found Acid Splash, the message that I had found it persisted in every room until I found the next spell.
Other than these issues though, I really enjoyed this little game :)
