Simple presentation, HUGE world, and some solid platforming.

PROS:

  • There was obvious care put into most of the platforming challenges throughout the very large world.
  • I love the hidden rooms and found my player behavior affected by them to try and seek them out.
  • Teleporters are a very nice touch in recognition of how vast the traversal time is across everything.

CRITIQUE:

  • It feels like there's potential input lag or dead presses sometimes on controller when attempting to dash and/or double-jump. I had several unfortunate spike deaths as a result.
  • I had to put the game down about halfway through to take care of things. My 4-year-old picked up the controller and ran around a bunch, and then I had no idea where I needed to go next, lol. I'm not saying you need to prevent 4-year-old intervention, but even with a solid map setup I had trouble tracking the intended player path as I was going and had to backtrack at least a few times before figuring out where to go.
  • You knew it would happen to someone, but I definitely ran back to the portal with 5 shards, but only 2490 scrap to my name so I had to wander a few screens over to get one last pickup before finishing. It's a little anti-climactic of an ending, but the real issue is that I didn't really know what the finish line was in terms of resources until I showed up short and giving more info along the way would have prevented that "feels bad" moment.

Precise movement - nice skills - big world (got lost haha)  - big hitboxes on spikes (outch) - evil enemies (who respawn exactly when you don t want them to respawn xD)

Nice Game - although ... is there no Music? I missed the Audio part a little ...

Developer

Oh hey, thanks for trying my game out :D

Also there are no music/sfx and background art, I was to invested in the map, movement and level design that I didn't have enough time to polish. (Even the tiles were made less than 12 hours before the deadline)

The basic controls are simple but feels great. Movement and jump is really snappy and responsive. One of the main pitfall for a jam game is making the game too difficult, but that's not the case in this game. It's just that the map is really big. Didn't played it for as long as many of the other commenters did, but since multiple different sets of tiles are used, the levels feels pretty different to each other. The secret paths are also cool, but I think they're a bit too random for me.

Overall, I think it's a solid baseline for an adventure-platformer metriodvania. Good luck on your next one!

Developer

I always believe metroidvania maps should be pretty big hehe, but yeah probably should tone it down a bit in a game jam.

Thanks for the advise and also for trying the game out :)

This is a good game, i just think you could've spen't more time polishing(a proper background, sound, memorable locations, screenshake, etc...), than building this abrsurdly large map. Keep in mind, this is a jam, we have to rate other games too. I had collected 2500 scrap and 3 shards, just to find out i needed 5 shards to repair the portal. At that point i stopped playing, i did not have the motivation to find that one location leading me to the remaining 2.

Also, small tip, in godot, go to project settings -> rendering and enable "use nvidia rect flicker workaround", that prevents your tilemap from having these small flickering lines.

Yeah I totally agree, I'll do my best on the next metroidvania jam :D

Also thanks for the advise and trying my game :)

I really enjoyed this. Tighly designed and a huge map! Played for 30 minutes or so then had to go or I'd be late for work.. so not finished it yet. Got to around 400 fragments. Hope to try and play it out soon. You mention of course not having the background or sounds and not having time, but if you were to add those things after the jam this game feels like a winner.

Really good job! :)

Developer

Really glad you enjoyed this and thanks for playing it :)

Nice job, this was fun to play.  I really liked your art -- the palette in particular was really well chosen, you got a lot out of a small number of pixels.  The surfaces in the different regions were really vibrant and cool.  At one point after getting the double-jump, I got the blue crystal to the right of the start point, and then, like an idiot, I decided to see if there was a secret area if I leapt off that cliff to the right and...there wasn't.  I was somewhere below the camera, perhaps just continuously falling, and I had to quit out of the game.  But I had fun with it, nice work!

Developer

Aw thanks, really happy you liked it,

Also you can reset your position once you go glitching out by pressing "F5" or "Select", but thanks for trying out my game :)

Great game! A bit too massive for me though. Was able to get 2500+ scraps but did not find the last 2 portal pieces. The controls also felt a bit unresponsive at times. I kept falling off trying to do double jump + dash because some of the inputs in the sequence did not register the moment I pressed them. Maybe it is a controller + web build issue

Developer

Yeah, I was also having the same issue and thought that it just might be my laptop, thanks for pointing that out and also thanks for trying my game :)

I couldn't get attack to work, so I just kept dying.

Developer

Umm its actually one of the upgrades, so for the first descent you might need to ultra dodge them hehe

The controls feel good! I am bad at games I think because I can't get passed the first "tall jump" haha.  I found one secret path in the wall :D  Also I don't seem to have any abilities but jumping (probably intended at the start?)  Please let me know how to proceed further hehe, please check out my game when you have time too~

Developer(+1)

Ah, you might try going to the left of the portal :)

Also, I have actually played your game and it was one of the best submission I have played so far I think.

Submitted(+1)

Oh of course haha I will continue! Thanks for playing my game too :D

Awesome! ^^ very satisfying traversing, after finding all the movement abilities. I found 4/5 portal fragments and was looking 30 mins for the last one, I went off for a break, didn't realised I closed the game and lost all my progress.. feel like such an idiot after 2.5hours :') I had close to or over 3500 points too. Poor gloop is going to be trapped in that dimension forever hah, I'll def come back and finish this after playing other submissions.

I can tell a lot of hard work went into this, the map is really well made, and the map screen too. Can tell if you'd get time to add the background art and music/sfx this would really be incredible! :)

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

Here is a hint though, Go to the lowest right of your map and you shall find what you are looking for, probably hehe

Also would like to try your game tomorrow :)
