This could be pretty great, I didn't understand until after I quit trying to get past the very first enemy that I was suppose to use the block to kill him....um it was a little difficult with only 3 health points.... it just wasn't very enjoyable dying so much.... so if you just had more health I think this game would be more fun

Hi, general feedback for the game suggests that it's too challenging from the start, but the concept is good. I wanted to put emphasis on the puzzle elements of the game and the jam is a way of getting feedback from players on the cryptic game play. I will work on the game and incorporate a less severe learning curve. I hope you will revisit the game as it evolves. Thanks for playing.

Usually i don't give up on hard games but either the boss difficulty was absurd, or i didn't understand what i had to do. it had some interesting mechanics with the box to kill enemies and use it as cover and i liked the art style. I wish i could have finished it.

Developer

Hi boqui, The boss is fairly easy to kill, but you have to avoid the bullets. You will need extra health too which is  hidden near the collapsing platforms. Hopefully your wish will be granted.

Thank you for your feedback.

Loved the game! As some other comments have said some basic audio would have added a lot, one thing i couldn't figure out for quite a bit is that the blocks were able to be destroyed by shooting them. I loved the challenge of how fast the enemies shoot back at you, made it fun to try to beat without dying!

Hi Fiery51,

Thanks for your comments. I'm regretting not putting in some sfx and a basic audio track. All comments inspire me to carry on working with the prototype and develop it further. I  will be entering the game into SMVM.

So, I like the pixel art. But I really miss some sfx and music, as well as gamepad support.

And I don't think I would have figured out the box thing at the start without seeing it in your GIF.

But aside from that it is a nice game. Good job

Hi Pandoria Falls and thanks for playing. Re sound fx/audio. A majority of the build was all packed into the final week. I wanted to produce everything myself and I just didn't allow enough time, so lesson learned. I agree the game suffers for not having sound. This will be worked on.

Yeah, sometimes plans don't work out. I had to improvise, too.

Keep up the good work!

just to let you know that I've just purchased a gamepad and will add the feature when I have time.

I like the overall look and feel of this game. I found it to be a bit difficult but im very bad at playing games with a keyboard so thats probably on me. I dunno if i would have figured out the box thing either if it hadnt been for the comments and the gif. overall, nicely done!

Developer

Hi dfritz22 Thanks for your comments . I welcome any feedback. I guess if I develop the game further I would introduce the killing of enemies with environmental objects later in the game and not have the player find their first lot of ammo in this way. I appreciate that it is hard, but it's a concept I can work on. As for the controller support I will look into this.

Cool concept and entry! I love the look and the movement of this game. The gameplay was pretty clever and well thought out considering this is a prototype too.

SPOILERS

I do have to say that if not for the leading gif, I do not know if I would have figured out that I had to drop the box on the first enemy to get the ammo and keep going. Honestly, the first time I played I ran past him and made it past the next two enemies, just to be stuck.

I did end up making it to the "boss" but I only had 1 health and died lol Check points would be really nice.

I did find one bug: it doesn't appear that you reset the internal kill count var after you die, so they go past the 4 max as you die more but keep killing the enemies over and over.

Overall, very cool and enjoyable though!

I would really really like controller support :)

Hi raptor9999. Thanks for playing... I realised it would be a bit hard to figure out, hence the clue in the gif. There is extra health hidden some where before meeting the boss. Its my first Jam and my first Metroidvania, so hopefully things will get more spicy over time.

Thank you for the feedback! Its all very encouraging and I will tinker with the game in response to feedback given.
