Good entry!

I was charmed that the characterization of the protagonist and the environment.  I liked the dynamic lighting that follows the playable character around I see in some 2D games.  The game feels good to play and the abilities you get along the way are engaging and keep things fresh.  Unfortunately, I did come across some technical issues that I won't dwell on since it's been mentioned in a few posts below, and I was unable to proceed further.  Nonetheless, aside from a few quirks this game definitely has a world and story I'd be invested diving deeper into if it ever gets fleshed out!

Good luck!

Developer

Many thanks for your feedback !
Yeah I apologize for the technical issues you encountered this is frustrating and any player shouldn't go throught such problems, we are improving ourselves to fix that in the future ( a part of it is already fixed and will be implemented after the jam voting session )
But really your comment is heartwarming and encourages me even more to create metroidvania games, there is still a long path to make things better but we'll make it i'm sure, thank you so much for those kind words :D

I really liked the unique look and set-up of this game! I thought the opening cutscene was really cute, and I enjoyed the mysterious set up for the world. I felt that the movement felt a little slow and difficult at times due to the large size of the ostrich compared to the world, but I really enjoyed all of the animations! I felt like the character had a lot of personality. I think adding little bits of juice to things like animations when objects open or disappear could go a long way. Small details throughout the environment, like little landmarks in different rooms, could also help the player keep a better sense of the world and where they are, as I found myself getting a little lost at times. Couldn't stop smiling at the overall look and feel of the game though, great work! Thank you so much for sharing!

Developer (1 edit)

Many thanks for you feedback !
You're totaly true about the lack of landmarks, we miss them to guide the player and had other feedback saying that people were lost so this is important consider this in our next games to not make lost the players :)
Also about the movement you're indeed right, i am the game designer of the game and i made a big mistake by underestiomating this parts that is finaly too much frustrating for tyhe player, i just learned a lot of this mistake so thank you for pointing it out as well !
And i consider the remakrs on the other animations, we lacked of time to make them but yeah on a complete game we should have this details into them as well !

But really your comment make me really happy, I'm so glad to hear that someone was smiling throug all his play session on our game, and THIS really want me to continue making games to bring other people smiling on them ! Thank you so much for the kind words !!

This was really fun! I love the art, music and sound design, and I thought the abilities were well implemented. Other people mentioned some issues with the game crashing, and unfortunately I couldn't play too many rooms after getting the wind arrow. I tried on PC and the web version but it would always be some random location (like doing a normal jump to a platform), and the game would stop responding. So I'm a little bummed out, but the parts I was able to play were great!

Developer

Many thanks for the reply !
Yeah sorry for the crashes it's a shame to have this on it and I apologize for the frustration it involved on the experience you got woith our game. I reworked on our game and i think we have solved this issue now so the version after the game jam should not have crashes anymore !

Anyway, thank you a lot for the kind feedback we really appreciate it :)

Your opening scene is really cool! This would be more impactful with sound work.

Watch your metrics on the level design. Repeatedly bumping my head on the ceiling doesn't feel good for platforming. Also, I'm not sure how to get out of the first area.

Props to your musician, I enjoyed their soundtrack a lot!

Developer

Many thanks for your answer !
We'll pass the kind words to our musician :) !

Also, I am the game designer responsable of the level design and your clearly pointed a bad thing with our game is that you get your head too much on the ceiling, i did a big mistake with this beceaus i under estimated the size of our character and should have putted more height on the jump of the character
Also the level could have been better to guide the player, it's a shame in game design point of view if the player wasn't even able to get out the 1st area

So there is a lot of things i have to improve on the next games I'll work on, thank you for you feedback i really apreciated it :)

All good! Jams are a great place to learn. Here's to always improving!

Controls are a bit all over the place and the game would sometimes briefly randomly freeze (which might be a browser issue), but otherwise it is rather nicely done. :)

I like the art and shadow effects and the overall richness. Well done!

Many thanks for the kind comment we apreciate !
We know there is technical issue with the game so we have to improve it for sure

Congrats buddies, you have a really good game here.

I am totally in love with your art, the animation at the begin, the UI, and the environment you build.

I just think you could make better choices to your sound assets list because the background sound starts to be kind of boring after some time of gameplay.

About the first enemy, I think his animation can be a little bit better, this one you are using looks like it is sliding and shaking at the same time.

In general, the game is impressive, to become perfect, you just need to put some people to play it a lot, watch them play take some notes about their critiques, and use all of this to polish the game.

Developer

Many thanks for the kind comment we really apreciate it !
We'll pay attention to have better SFX next time indeed we rushed it this part and there is also other part that miss SFX ( enemies, interactive objects, etc ... )
We take note of what you saied about the animation, sure there is stuff to improve on that part
Anyway, we are really happy you did enjoyed our game and that the most important then !
And  also we notice the advise you gave to use, thank you so much !

Hey there! The game crashed in a few instances such as taking dmg or entering a room, it was doing it a lot especially when going back into the previous room from this one. I did install the exe file to give it as much of a fair rating as I could, but sadly I wasn't able to finish it because of these issues so I'll do my best with what I was able to play.
I really liked the art-style and the simplistic yet effective level/ability design. I also liked the enemies gave you points to collect and how the main 'peck' attack felt very in tune with the character. The opening was nicely stylised also, would have maybe benefitted from some sound effects as well as in some of the attacks such as the arrows. The dash felt lovely it had nice momentum, but it has a short cooldown. I would have liked to see it displayed somewhere so I knew from the start I couldn't spam it. I felt quite free to explore wherever I chose so good job for that too.

Overall a sweet and enjoyable game which felt very cohesive so well done despite the technical issues!

Developer(+1)

Many thank for your comment !
We know the technical issues, everyone are getting them and I have to apologize for the frustation you got on that beceaus it's not a qualitive product, but anyway really thank you for having give it a try by going further even regarding tthose issues, we really apreciate the effort :)

Unfortunately, I could not play your game to the end, because it freezed regulary.

The part I had a plesure to play was made very good. Powerups have a "tutorial" area to them. Rooms are well planned, metroidvania-ish map style is present.

Knockback on attacking felt out of place: it is more common to be knocked back if you get hit or enemy/object is invulnerable/untargetable.

Good platforming controls are present, so it's a huge plus.

Great entry overall! Good luck!

Developer(+1)

Many thanks for the kind feedback ! I apologize for the freeze it is really annoying for the player and we know our game have high technical problem so i'm verry sorry we didn't were able to deliver a acceptable version of teh Game
But anyway we really apreciate what you sayed and we are happy to see you got some pleasure on it at least :)

Submitted(+2)

It really is very nicely drawn, and the animation of intro is very cool. Sadly there were a lot of time when main character just got something like stuck into environment with all enemies moving, but it is not responding :(
I used windows version.

Yet I see it as a very good possible start for something more than just jam entry.

Developer (1 edit)

Thank you so much for the kind comment while you get a soo bad experience with our game. We are aware that the game is buggy and there is crashes, we're looking to fix all of this so thank you for the feedback this will help us to fix it !

Good Game!  I really like the visuals, from the lighting to the background decorations. The music and enemy designs create an eerie vibe that I also like. There seems to be a lot of abilities by looking at the controls guide.  I unfortunately had two crashes and was unable to complete the game.

Here are some of the suggestions that could improve your game:

  • Increase control guide image size.
  • RT & LT inputs don't work for Godot web builds currently.
  • Add a save system to prevent progress loss.
Developer

Many thanks for the reply !
Yeah we are aware with the crashes on the game everyone have it and i just can apologize beceaus it gives not a good experience of the game, anyway we really appreciate the suggestions and we will look forward to integrate them :)

I really liked the intro animation, though it seemed like suitably dramatic music would have been nice to have for that section.

The game was running a bit slow in browser, but I didn't have that problem with the download version.

The first time through the game crashed a few seconds after I used the wind arrows.

On a second attempt the game crashed when entering that same room, but before I could grab the wind arrows upgrade.

In any case, even though I couldn't finish it, I'm really impressed with what I did get to check out.

Developer

We really apreciated your feedback here !
Yeah we are aware of those crashes and we are really sorry beceaus this is really unpleasant for the player so really thank you for giving a positive feedback even if you got crashes !
Anyway the feedback you gived is really meaningfull for us and will help us to fix this, thank you !!!

Really liked the art, especially in the cutscenes. There just needs to be animations for enemies dying and doors opening, etc. Movement was fine, didn't find big problems in it. The biggest issues I encountered:

-The wind arrow respawned after I died but I still had it on me, probably the same with other items too.

-The game froze several times, I think they were the first times I save the game, took damage or shot an arrow. Those times it only froze for like ten seconds but at one point I minimized the game window, came back after a while and the game was frozen for good.

But yeah, even if the game didn't get frozen, I didn't find any way to continue after getting the wind arrow. There surely was a lot after that I would have liked to see!

Developer

Thank you so much for having played our game and giving kind words despite the crashes you faced
We are aware of the crashes and we were trying to solve those issue until the last minuts of the jam but without  having been able to fix it :'(
Your feedback here are really relevant and will help us to solve the issue
Again, thank you for you reply <3

Hi! I played some of your game, though not all of it, I quit after getting the wind arrow, running around for around 10 minutes trying to find the path forward to no avail. So here's my thoughts on what I've seen so far!

The regular movement feels good, not too stiff, I like it. The dash, on it's own, feels good as well, I just don't think it should be on a cooldown. Having to wait on a platform for the dash to regenerate is wasting the player's time for no good reason.

Art and music are both good, nothing to point out there. I feel like you could've toned down the fancy effects a little, my framerate was dropping a bit sometimes.

All in all, this game is a lot like hollow knight if it didn't have that big of a budget. Some mechanics are very clearly inspired by it, maybe by accident, but I assume not. This game isn't bad, don't get me wrong, presentation is decent, gameplay feels acceptable as well, it's just that it isn't that original. If you really want players to enjoy your game, consider coming up with something that re-invents the genre a little.

Developer

Thank you so much  for the time you've taken  to give us such a detailled reply !

I personaly take in consideration what you sayed for what we will do next !
