The art style and the particles that you make when you walk were a fun take and looked really great!
The game felt a little bland and I only figured out I was taking damage after I popped back to a checkpoint, where I also figured out that I have to use the mouse to attack but the arrow keys and space bar were to move and jump..
The enemy AI was lack luster, I wish they all just didn't go back and forth and the hit boxes were a little more realistic on them.
Overall, good job.
Thanks for the feedback and for playing my game ! You can change the controls for movement in the options of the main menu. I didn't had much time to work on the game but I still worked on it and had to make all the art as a beginner
I may give this another shot before the voting period ends, but I couldn't quite finish it. The menu really pulled me in, but the art was cool. Felt simple yet charming and unique. Especially the player character. However, the controls and exploration was bland and somewhat frustrating. The enemies don't give great feedback for damage and you have no way of knowing you get hurt if you're not looking at your health constantly. The jump seems to only just barely clear the enemies so you have to be extra precise to get over the dinosaur-like enemies and it was frustrating when I was trying to get back to where I died and progress. Checkpoints would have helped immensely and I would have saw it through to the end regardless. I also think the game would have done better with melee or a projectile that actually shoots from the character with quicker response time. Either that or the enemies bouncing back when you hit them, or a short moment of invincibility while the enemy is blinking. As is, the controls just seemed unwieldy and it was too easy to get punished. After the menu, I would have loved to hear more music and sfx to make the game feel more interesting. The lack of sound and interesting level design(from where I got to) and the unresponsive mechanics made it hard to want to finish. But the start had a lot of promise and with some more time and polish, I think this could have been a really good game. I'm sorry this comes off so harsh, but I also know game jams can be tough as is, let alone as a solo dev. Good job putting in the work that you did.
Thanks for the feedback and for playing my game ! I didn't had much time to work on this project for the game jam but I still did it for fun. I had to make all the art my self as a beginner and had to do all the animations and code stuff.
For a beginner there's a lot to enjoy about the art! Like I said, it had a charm to it that stood out to me. Keep it up!
I liked the art style and vibe the game was giving off at the start. however after completing the quest here's some things I noted. I wasn't sure when I was being hurt and would teleport back after I died, took a bit to realized my health was going down even when enemies were flashing. There didn't seem to be any powers or anything to prevent my progress without unlocking , I just sorta walked to the end and jump over a few enemies. Might consider remapping the jump to the up arrow so that you can jump while attacking. After the title screen there wasn't any sounds or music, but I liked the vibe the title screen was setting up!
Thanks for the feedback and for playing my game !and you can remap the controls by going into the → options → controls. And the rest I will update soon after the jam I didn't had much time right now !
I had issues with controls on this also, maybe debug and resubmit you still got time?
I have fixed the problem go check out the game one more time ! 😉
The movement controls don't seem to work so it feels unfair to rate it right now. The shift key works, but neither arrows, WASD or anything else I tried makes the character move.
I have fixed the problem go check out the game one more time ! 😉
