A lot of effort went into this one. Super nice art style and a lot going on. This is definitely one to keep working on, Id love to see it as a full game

Developer

Heyyy that means a lot, thanks so much! We're really glad you like it -- thanks for playing! We'd love to see a Lava Chef 2 one day :)

Damn this is cute! I really like the idea and it was executed really well for such a short time period! The controls were a bit difficult though, I think it would help if everything was a bit bigger. I tried fullscreen but the game window was still very small with the rest of the screen just black :)

Developer

Thank you so much! We did receive some feedback about the controls being difficult, and we just pushed a change that should hopefully make the controls feel more responsive and easy to play. If you get a chance to try it again, we’d love to know what you think!

The fullscreen issue appears to be with the Unity WebGL build in Itch, and we’re still working on that. For now, you can zoom in more on your browser to make the game window larger! Thanks for the feedback 🙏

Thanks for playing! We're really glad you liked it. Yeah, we're still tweaking the controls a bit because the map can be unforgiving or misleading sometimes. The bigger screen thing is a good point though! We'll work on getting that fixed. Right now the best solution is to play in full screen and then zoom in as much as you can with your browser, but we'll definitely see if we can get it patched. <3

Love the game style in terms of art and music, really charming.. Although controls when walking can be a bit stiff but overall a nice entry, great job :D

Developer

Thank you so much -- we're so glad you loved the style! And we'll definitely work on improving the controls in the future. Did you have trouble with the movement, keybinds, or something else specifically? We really appreciate the feedback :D

Submitted

I would say it is mostly how the movement works/feels. When I change directions while walking it has kind of a delay which got me killed alot

Developer

Thanks for your feedback! We took that into account and changed the controls to be more responsive when changing directions :) If you would consider giving it another try, we’d love to see what you think of the updated controls!

Presentation AMAZING! beautiful game, and the game design was pretty interesting. Great Job!

Developer

Wheee thank you so much! Really glad you liked our silly little game :3

Submitted

cute, but sometimes i fell in lava without knowing, it seems like i was on the ground but fell

Developer

Thank you! Yeah, it was kind of tricky to do the map collisions because of the jagged map layout and player perspective. We used a grid-based movement system which made it hard to precisely tune the collision detection as well. We’ll definitely work on improving that though!

Submitted

cute art, fun gameplay, idk if its just me but the use of the arrow keys for movement is not the best

Developer

Thank you! We did get some feedback about the controls being difficult — was there something specifically hard about the arrow key movement? We’d love to keep updating the game, so we appreciate any feedback! 🙏

Just used to using wasd honestly

It is really well done! I loved the use of the theme! Then the graphics...OMG I LOVE THE DOG!

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much! The dog loves you too <3

Loved loved loved the art in the kitchen with the dog. Also really like the amount of story/information you guys provided inside of the game instead of on the web page. I found the controls to be unforgiving and I died a lot which made it hard for me to progress all the way through. I also couldn't play it in full screen so that may be the reason it felt a little hard. I really like that you guys gave it some extra spice as well with having a narrative about the game. I gave the judges food poisoning a lot lol.

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much! The art and story were really fun to make so I’m super happy you liked it.

Re: the controls, we really appreciate the feedback — we didn’t have much time to playtest before the jam deadline — but we just pushed a new update that should make the dash more consistent and allow you to drop accidental pick-ups. I think you should be able to play full-screen now too! We’ll keep working on balancing the difficulty, so thank you for the feedback :D

Developer(+1)

P.S. just wanted to say thank you for your feedback — we just pushed an update that made the controls more responsive and the lava collision more forgiving, so we’d love to see what you think! You can also now zoom in to make the game window larger :D We really appreciate the feedback!

Submitted

Hey just played it again! The player feels a lot better around the lava and the dash is significantly easier to visualize and understand what it does.
