Simple but fun! I really dig the music and extra kudos for using Pxtone Collage. Difficulty curve isn't the greatest, but the level design on the whole is very solid.

Reminds me of Celeste and A Short Hike, yeah. The game was very fun and was quite a challenge,  tbh I still haven't beat level 2 yet. I love the little glide/hover thing that was added (even though I only discovered it further through the game) made the game much more interesting. The levels are designed well to be challenging but after beating it, very satisfying (would've appreciated it a little easier though). I love how it could've been just a very simple platformer with the basic mechanics but you added the little spinning bird with the jump and hover, which in my opinion, makes it so much better! After I've beaten all the levels (might take a while), I would love to speedrun the game. The background music was amazing as were the sound effects. The pixel art was so cute and fit perfectly in the game as well, I loved the colour palette. A great game overall, definitely a 10/10!

Super super great game as usual.

The Good:

The controls feel great, the animations and sounds are all extremely high quality. The ability to keep spinning on the ground by holding the button is amazing. Makes me think of a super jump where you just spin on the ground then Boost.

note for me is any Jam game with context/narrative is a HUGE step up by default. Turns a jam entry from a small little thing to something to remember, specially if the writting and characters are so charming

Game gave me vibes to alot of really good games, Celeste, Short hike, and others.

The Less Good:

I think a few peeps on the discord mentioned the difficulty spike, there is a few I found. Difficulty will be very subject, while I think you nailed it and it was fun through out, others might be turned off by a sudden wall.

I think the platforms and level end platforms were to similar, During the first long, travel right with the wind segment I kept dying. Then finally when I hit the platform I assumed was the level end, proceeded to pop off it and die. The Level ends do glow, but I didn't notice the difference until after than set back. Maybe if there was a glowy beam or like a icon on top of it.

Final thing I want to note is it felt like there was alot of times where I had to, glide, then release it quickly to hit jump again. While this isn't a flaw directly, it just was a very unnatural feeling input. Perhaps the player could have two jump buttons? would be very odd but would make that maneuver alot easier

BTW dont let the size of the sections imply anything. This game is flipping amazing, and there is so much more good. I am just alot better at writting out my thoughts on the critical parts.

Amazing work!

This reminds me of celeste in the best way possible. I love the simplicity and vibes of it. I would love to see this idea expanded on in the future, but whether or not you do, great job!!

Didn’t submit so can’t rate but i’ll comment anyway! >:D

I, LOVE this game. The gameplay mechanics are simple, but really fun, and i absolutely ADORE the little spinny bird haha. The levels are pretty well designed too, challenging enough to be engaging while simple enough to not be too frustrating to beat ( save for the last level. curse that last spring ), which is a good mix in my opinion

The game does lack a couple quality of life features though, that i think might improve the gameplay experience:

  • One, it’d be really nice to have a quick restart button to be able to restart the level before you die when you mess up. Similarly, it’d be nice to have a “reset save” button as it’d be a lot more convenient than having to manually remove the save.bin file
  • Two, i’d recommend completely resetting the state of all the entites in a level when you die. The reason i bring this up is ( as of right now, v2.0 that is ) that replaying a level after you respawn is very inconsistent. The colour switch blocks in particular keep on switching their states from solid to transparent while you’re respawning, which leads to a small amount of inconsistency between reruns. So it’d be neat if the blocks followed a set pattern and just resetted to the start of the pattern upon death.
  • And three, controller support please ;)

All in all though, i loved this game. A small charming little platformer that i’ll be speedrunning for a while now for sure haha. Could even be a really pleasant full release with a bunch of extra levels and some extra polish :D ggs on this entry

EDIT: I am dumb and did not read the game page OR the readme.txt. did not realize you could hold c to reset the game

Thanks for playing anyway! The level actually gets entirely reloaded when you die, the switch blocks are on a global timer timed to the beat of the background music. Not great for speed running, but required for timing!

Also, if there is no controller support, that’s a bug, since it’s fully implemented!

ah that makes sense actually! i didn’t think the blocks were timed to the music haha

as for the controller, yeah most likely. my controller **technically** works because it does register inputs, except that’s mostly just the game reacting to stray inputs since it only responds to jump and pause. movement doesn’t work at all ( im on a ps4 controller )

I guess this game was heavily influenced by Celeste. Because I loved that game, this game also sparks joy.

This feels so fun to play! although there is an annoying almost pixel perfect jump here which causes an annoying difficulty spike. (the second jump pad jump in the level in the picture)

Developer

Thanks for playing, this jump has since been made a bit easier!

I love this game, the visuals beautiful visuals, the unusual but pleasant colot pelette, the amazing music, the polished and challenging gameplay. My favorite game of the jam so far. Great Job.
