This game was deeply upsetting (in the best way possible).  You clearly knew exactly what you wanted to achieve with this, and I think you succeeded in spades.  The story is incredibly moving, the presentation effectively complements the story, and the concept perfectly blends the limitation and the theme.  (I particularly appreciated all the moments where the player is given the illusion of choice, which were delightfully ironic in a game about "freedom.")  Really, really well done!

Interesting story. I like how it fits the limitation and at the same time makes a lot of sense. I still have to read 1984, so I think some parts might have flown over my head, but I think I got the gist of it.

One thing that I think would really improve immersion would be to make it so that the doomscrolling happened inside a smartphone display, forcing us to do the scrolling ourselves (I have absolutely no idea if that is possible using calico, though). Some ambient sound effects would also be nice - but again I think it's not actually possible on calico and it kinda goes beyond what an interactive fiction is.

Overall very interesting read. I also liked the pictures, and how the colors were used. Good job!

There's something poetic in this story but it really misrepresents Orwell's work, and is really just commentary on today. I know it can be argued that's the point but 1984 would not have social media with opposing viewpoints so that sort of took me out of it. I really like your take on the limitation, though.

A nitpick, choose a color with more contrast for the clickable links, it was pretty hard to see on my monitor.

ah, thanks for the comment!

...it's fairly flawed in some aspects because the whole engine was new to me and i kinda tried to make it work in 72 hours so, duly noted!

P.S. regarding orwell... well, let me phrase it.. carefully enough. while i myself don't live in a CERTAIN COUNTRY, and 1984 is NOT OFFICIALLY BANNED in that specific country, i also have living relatives in said country, and some people got in trouble for publicly reading 1984 or leaving copies of it in public places. so, the heavy reference in itself is a commentary on today but a foreign reader won't probably notice that, so let's say it was a shallow attempt of mine to replace real-life places and events with borrowed from 1984 for reasons of not getting too deep into the propaganda hole myself.
