Use of the limitation
The signals are signs and storys left by the previous inhabitant. I did not realize there was a limitation. Until a day after the jam ended and im updating this now. Sorry everyone. Thanks to Jiji200 who pointed it out to me.

Can you give me a hint on how to progress? Interacting with the phone doesnt do anything.

Suggestion: You are already using unity 2D shadows, so why not make the flashlight use an actual 2D cone light, would look a lot better and would also interact with walls.

Ignore the phone just look for notes. I wasnt able to finish the phone clues and i forgot to deactivate it

And yes i was trying to get the lighting to work but i was running into issues with the objects appearing translucent when you stood behind them and it didnt look good. i am working on overhauling the lighting system i use. Thank you for the feed back!!!

It's an interesting game, the concept and especially the atmosphere are awesome, but there isn't really that much to the gameplay and it's a shame for the limitation. Still a nice game though! Would certainly become more interesting if you add more things to interact with and continue the story.

Developer

Thank you for the feedback and im glad you liked the concept and atmosphere! I already started working on adding more content and story on my local copy so hopefully i can improve it! Again, I really appreciate the feedback!

I like the atmosphere very much! The visuals and sounds are great. Was exciting to run around and searching for notes.

Developer

Thank you so much for playing and the feedback! I'm glad you enjoyed it!

its interesting. i was confused about the phone for a few seconds. also, i had no idea what i was doing, i was just going in circles hoping to find the next note.

Developer

fair point! I definitely wish i had more clues on where to go.

First off the music is way to loud on the main menu. Also, while I think the music is very moody and nice for this kind of game I can't help but feel it takes away from the atmosphere a bit in-game. On the game menu it really sets the mood but in game it drowns out the rain and other environmental sounds; makes me feel more like a spectator then actually in the game.

The lighting looked a bit weird. There was a flashlight overlay on top of actual 2D lighting. I think one or the other would have worked better. Together it doesn't ruin the game or anything but just looks visually strange. The flickering of the flashlight overlay was kinda neat.

I think this game would have benefited very much from interactables. Just being able to interact with randmom drawers, and have it make a locked sound even, would have been neat. Also the phone had me confused at the start as I really thought with the big E prompt that I was meant to interact with it at that point in the game. Perhaps a SFX for when you interact with something you can't right now.

Overall nice spooky game.

Thank you for playing and i really appreciate the feedback. I would have loved to make intractables and originally i planned to but it got cut for time. And about the phone... yes it was supposed to do something each time it rings but I wasnt able to finish. Its unfortunate. in regsrds to the music and volume. thank you! i definitely need to find a good balance and get better with the lighting. I appreciate all the feedback!

Visuals and atmosphere were nice, but controls and story narrative is very hard. And phone interaction wasn't working for me, or I just didn't understand

Developer

thank you! and yes the phone unfortunately was not able to be fully implemented.

I really like the atmosphere, I felt like something could sneak up on me anytime. I can see the theme a bit "Signal" but I really don't see the limitation "Everything is tied to the rhythm". Seeing what you put under what was your use of the limitation, I think you mistook the theme as the limitation?(Sorry if I spammed you with notifications, it lagged and I posted this comment like 20 times..)

Developer(+1)

yup sure did!i only just realized the limitation was there. I literally have been playing a bunch of games and kept thinking why is everyone making rhythm games?... This is my first Mini Jam and didnt realize there was two things to pay attention to. Im so embarrassed.

It's all good, still a very fun short  game! And for your first mini jam it's pretty impressive!

Thanks! I hope to do do it more often, I havent coded games since October 2021 so It was nice to shake off the rust. I really appreciate the feedback

Love the horror mansion vibes ! Unfortunately the controls are a bit difficult to use (flashlight and movement) and the notes font is a bit difficult to read. I didn't see the use of the limitation either. Great graphics !

Developer

Thanks for playing! yeah unfortunately the phone was supposed to play more of a role and be the signal but i started to run out of time. I appreciate the feedback! If you have time I would like to hear more about why the controls weren't good for you.  No pressure though. Thanks again!
