Use of the limitation
Limitation is incorporated as a top-down shooter where you carry one chance at standing up against a wave of enemies for as long as possible.

Cookies eaten
Rakunuki ate about 5-10 ginger snaps. Difficultlogic had a kitkat. They're not sure about the others...

Nice presentation. Crisp. The mechanics were a bit obscure, though. I think a larger map for more time to plan attack might've helped. Solid premise, anyways.

This was fun, I honestly don't know cards so I just spammed the enemies; but it worked out! Until I wandered out of bounds and got lost :')

Really good work on the atmosphere, makes me realize the things we can do with sound design and samples! Only thing is the limitation is not obvious. Other than that, good job.

This is one of the coolest games I've played at a jam. Cool idea, great music. I really liked the game itself.

But this doesn’t quite fit the topic of jam, because... there’s no luck here. There is also one chance missing in the game - you have 5 lives.

One of the disadvantages is that the player can go off screen (money will spawn there). Also worth noting is the fact that the card system is unclear. Why these unusual card-shaped bullets? Not enough training.

Overall I liked the game! Continue in the same spirit!

Hello, thank you for the reply.
I kindly wish to argue your statement about not fitting into Theme and Limitation.

Theme: You are right, that there is not that much luck involved. Although, if you throw three cards in a row onto the same opponent (e.g. hit 3x with hearts provides a two hearts heal) you get a specific combo effect regarding the suit of the card. It is kind of luck involved, whether you get the fitting suits you need to activate that combo. Furthermore, the topic wasn't luck, it was Fortune. And a fortune teller doesn't always tell you, that you are lucky, doesn't it? In our imagination, the protagonist had bad luck in the casino so he could decide for it's own fortune path, to fight his way out of casino and depths.

Limitation: You are right, that you have 5 hearts. But the limitation wasn't applied to the player health but to the combo system. Hit an enemy with a heart card, then the heart gets logged into the enemy. Now hit him with another suit. The combo indicator is gone. So you have no further chance to realize a combo on that enemy. That is an application of only one chance.

But anyway, we are grateful for your feedback and will definitely incorporate it into our game. There will be a new version of the game since the rating time of the jam is over. We would appreciate it, if you would come back for another test then.

I enjoyed the art and the theme in this but then the game didn't play as I expected it to. Thought I had to throw cards of the same suit to kill the enemies but apparently that didn't do anything? A tutorial would have been great.

Developer(+1)

Thank you for your reply. A tutorial will be added soon onto the Itch page. If you are interested enough, you can find out there, what the mechanics of the cards are.

good ol top down shooter, fun gameplay!

My only problem aside from the buttons not working as intended, is  I don't quite get the functionalities of the cards (especially the first one that you'll shoot lingers to the enemy). Never get the mechanic behind that so I just spam all the cards. A tutorial/explanation would be appreciated to enforce the intended gameplay

Developer

You are totally right, we will add a little tutorial onto the Itch page. Maybe you are interested enough to check it out later on, such that you can get at least the idea of what we have implemented, even it is hard to achieve these mechanics during gameplay yet.

I think the start button doesn't work, or I don't know if it's just me.

Developer

So sorry! I recommend hitting buttons with the top of the cursor/reticle until that can be fixed.

Developer

Try moving the cursor a little below the start button

I think this was fun to play! Loved the voiceover. Cool concept.  However, the start button didn't always work and the player could move off-screen.
