I loved the art and concept, overall a great game!
Normally I avoid playing jam entries with cards, but this was actually very enjoyable and smooth. Neat take on the limitation. My only gripe is that it would be nice if there were a way to restart the game while playing. Sometimes I'd just make a mistake and not want to continue the run.
I didn't think about a restart button, I'll keep that in mind :o
I'm curious, why do you avoid card games usually?
Hadn't put much thought into why, but I guess I think the amount of time I spend learning the rules should be negligible to the amount of time I spend actually playing the game. Jam games are usually short, and I usually assume card games have a lot of rules.
But this game was addictive, it's unusual for me to want to play a jam game more than a couple of times for a higher score. Kudos!
Thanks for your answer, and I'm glad my game made you go past that x)
I'll definitely keep that in mind for future game jams though, making your game easy to grasp is very important when people are gonna play for a very short time.
When I was reading the instructions to this game, I thought it would be really hard to get in to. Boy was I wrong!
This game is really fun, and provides a great mental challenge with each hand! Excellent job!
Very easy to understand and fun to get into! I was in there for a while trying to get good at doing the math as fast as possible! And the birds chirping along were so cute! Amazing work!
Great addictive game.
Really cute, I liked to see a card game and how they move. Birds song are so cool and give directly a good energy. I found a bit hard without the explanation screen to understand the mechanic with the score for the next card, maybe a picto could help, but it's just for saying. I found the note as a multiplier very clever :)
I would've appreciated some storytelling for the why the meter is going down to add a bit more depth.
By the way Congrats, really appreciate it, made me smile to hear those birds!
Dear Gatlink,
the concept is good. The audio is very weird and it does not match in volume.. I just don't find this game fun to play (My opition). The best thing in your game is the drawings which aren't that stunning.

Pretty awesome game I really like it, simple and funny... well if you like math :D
this is interesting.. but I got confused about how the gameplay really is..
just do it randomly hahaha.. but I got very satisfying feel..
Really unique idea!
I didn't quite fully understand how to play though. I don't know if it's because I'm bad at math or what, but I never really knew what the right play was.
Thanks for your comment!
I gave a detailed explanation as an answer to the previous comment, feel free to take a look and see if you understand better. That game really needs a proper tutorial, but as you can guess it's kinda hard to do in the jam timeframe.
i really tried to understand this game but i still don’t fully get it. is the color coding a thing or just aesthetic? what is the optimal strategy for laying out the sequence of the cards?
me to
Let me try to explain better. The cards have a power value (the number on the top left corner). Right next to this value there is a note, that can be either simple (♪), double (🎵) or triple (there is no Unicode symbol for that sorry). This means that the points you get from the card will be applied once, twice or three times respectively. So if you have a card with 3🎵 in the top-left corner, you'll get 3 x 2 = 6 points.
Now let's talk about the top-right corner. In this corner you have a bonus that will be applied to the next card in line. Let's say we place the 3🎵 card to the right of a card with a +2 bonus. Now our 3🎵 card becomes a 5🎵, so you'll get 5 x 2 = 10 points. The bonus can be negative though, or even a multiplicator. So if you apply a bonus of x-1 to you 3🎵 card, it becomes -3🎵, so you'll get -3 x 2 = -6 points.
So the optimal strategy is to try to give the biggest bonus to the best suited card. A +2 is better on a triple note, while a x3 is better on a +4♪ than a 1 triple (3 x 4 x 1 > 3 x 1 x 3). You also have to manage the negative bonuses, to avoid losing points (you'll lose less point applying a -4 on a simple note than a triple for example).
The color is only there to differentiate the cards. Once you know them you'll only need to see the color to know which card it is (the pink one is a 0 triple, x-1 bonus for example, while the blue one is +4♪, +2.)
I dont know if my explanation made it better or worse, but anyway thanks for playing!
I liked this game a lot very unique idea.
The art is ridiculously cute and polished! And the concept is very unique as well. It feels closer to a finished game than a game jam entry. How the points were applied was a bit difficult to understand for me at first, but I think I started to catch on after a few plays.
I loved the concept and the music, definitely the most creative project I've played in the jam!
This is very charming, from the colors, the bird design, the card animation, to the chirping.
I see a lot of potential here: With a few more features, I think this would make a fun mobile game.
Absolutely amazing, all 5s!
Good graphics, sounds, gameplay, everything! Had a lot of fun playing it.
The only change I see making it more fun is adding a bit more time so games last longer, that's it!
Really fun game! Imagine this PVP omg.
Ps. Now that soundtrack is in my head xD
What a wonderful little concept. love that you went with a card game. Art wise I wish the cards had different bird designs on them, along with the colour change. Just to add a bit of charm. But you're super creative with the gameplay! Took me a bit to really figure it out, but it's fun, a really awesome concept. You should be proud of this!
Thanks a lot for your kind comment! My goal was to have several different parts for the birds (body shape, eyes, beaks, etc.) and "build" them depending on their characteristics (different beaks for the notes, different body shapes for the power level, etc.) But, as you can guess, I didn't have time for that, and to be honest I already struggled to make one bird, so I decided to discard (ah!) the idea.
Time is always against us haha. I had to cut so much as well, I know how you feel.
Please tell me u already are game dev. Tbh i envy you its so cool.
How do you come up with this idea? Its super original!
I am a game dev who's been in the industry for something like 10 years, so don't worry x)
As for the idea, I really wanted to make a card game, but I struggled to find something that would fit, to the point where I nearly gave up. I juste new that I wanted the order of the cards to matter, because I wanted the cards to line up like birds on a wire. But I started working on drawing cards and displaying them and the idea came to me, and I was lucky enough for it to work pretty well.
omg i knew it!!! U aint amateur. It was too polish and nice to be some random. Ok officially jelly now. Anyway well done!
Well if it make you feel better it took me ten years as a professional to finally manage to finish a solo jam, so I should be jealous of you! :D
Love it, great art style and had fun playing it. Although I found spamming the middle card I could survive forever.
Even though, great game and concept!
You're not the first one to tell me playing fast and lose is a good strategy. To be honest it's pretty random at the moment, when I try sometimes I lose in less than a minute sometimes I last 4. That game needs balancing x)
Thanks for playing!
Even though it does it is still super impressive for a 3 day jam period. You should be super proud of yourself!
