Movie scene description (plus video link if possible!)
Three scenes: Racing in the desert, fighting your way into new york and driving out of the city. Well, that was the idea. I didn't have time to do the last part, so that bit is missing.
The whole movie is available on the internet archive. https://archive.org/details/2019.After.the.Fall.of.New.York.DVDRip.1983
The scenes I'm inspired by are at running times 0.07, 0.21 and 1.20.

Please list any pre-made art/music/other assets that you used.
Lots of stock assets from pixabay, turbosquid and daz3d. My own game engine Pixie. Platformer game part is mostly based on a previous game jam. Music while racing is a song I had done before the jam. Sounds from freesound.org.
How many members in your team?
Anything you want to say to players before they play?
When racing, you can use Z for handbrake. Cursor keys, X, Z and ENTER are the controls. SPACE to interrupt cutscenes. ESC to exit game immediately. TAB to toggle CRT emulation shader. ALT+ENTER to toggle fullscreen.
UPDATE: a post-jam update (v3) adding gamepad support, option to use WASD for controlling the car, better car handling, ENTER to skip cutscenes, confirmation dialog on ESC to exit, instructions on what controls are available.

Nice graphics, interesting game! I included it in my Movie Game Jam compilation video series, if you’d like to check it out! :)
This is a RIDICULOUSLY good game.
The driving "mini-game" alone is awesome, let alone the platformer as well.
How on earth did you do this ALONE in the time period,!?
The graphics style is amazing (I may have to look into your Pixie game engine!).
The music is also really great.
The whole atmosphere reminds me of a mix of "Escape From New York" and classic (read: cheesy) 80's sci-fi actions films.
I almost got stuck at the end, coz I couldn't tell what had unlocked, but found the "cure" in the end.
Great stuff - good luck! :D
That - was - FUN!! It felt like I was back in the early Amiga years again. Am I wrong to believe that was an era you're quite familiar with? I mean, for a jam, the game is incredibly polished in the sense it feels like a game commercialy released when that computer was the best. The CRT effect is spot on, the cinematics, the sound effects, the music... god that was a blast. The car part was a bit hard but progressive enough to allow going a bit further each time, until success. And for the 2nd part: I didn't watch the movie, but I guess it's one of those italian "Escape From NY" & "Mad Max "rip-offs, and if it's somewhere near "1990: The Bronx Warriors" I can tell your game is spot-on about the cheesy characters and sceneries of those guilty pleasures. Best and funniest game I've played this far, bravo!
Thank you for the kind words :) Makes me want to do more games for people to enjoy!
And you are absolutely right, I got started with computers with the commodore 64, and was well into it during the AtariST/Amiga era. I love the general aesthetics of that time, and do put a lot of attention to the details there, so it is very nice to hear that it comes through in some form!
You got it spot on with The Bronx Warrior - 2019 is the same kind of cheesy italian action movie from the 80s.
And if you like this one, maybe you'd enjoy this other game I made as well: https://mattiasgustavsson.itch.io/extrication It is an adventure game, but inspired by the same era.
Thanks again :)
The filters are great! I love the gamepad support. I wish the music did not stop in the platformer part. A camera moving to the are that changed when the switches are hit would be nice too. I think the art is great and I really love the mini map on the first level. Great entry thanks for sharing!
There is a cool intro and a vibrant movie feel.
Racing part is kinda hard. Car is not feeling very responsive. And some kind of preemptive camera can help a bit there.
Town part looks supa good. But I had trouble figuring what changed in the scenery after activating colored stands.
Anyhow, this piece is solid and I made it to the end.
Also I will check the movie, it does have that 80's snakish vibe I like, so thx for heads up!
Thank you :) I have released an updated version with better car handling and gamepad support. But worrying slightly that the game is too easy now...
I wanted to add a death rally style camera, aiming ahead of your car, but didn't have enough time. Might try adding it later.
There is a sound of a sliding metal door when you press the button, but very easy to miss. I'd like to have better feedback that it is the doors which are opening, I'll think about how to do it...
That was really neat! I like that there are two distinct game modes and the CRT effect worked very nice with the art. I do wish it would prompt before just exiting on the Escape button. Great job!
Thanks :) It was meant to be three different game modes but ran out of time. I just released an update that asks for confirmation before exit (and also acts as pause)
I loved the cheesy quality of this - after the great intro I was worried the game might be over after a poor-controlling car game (even if the Blastcorps-esque music was pretty great). But then reaching the next section was a really pleasant surprise. Even with some really questionable controls and mechanics I really liked the way the art style pulled things together, it had a lot of character to it. Thanks for making it :)
Thank YOU for playing it :) There is an update which gives slightly better handling - I agree that what I did during the jam was rather poor - I didn't spend enough time on it.
What a crazy gem of a movie to derive your game from. Love it!
