This game is probably not suitable for kids, due to liberal use of blood!

Very nicely made game! I included it in my Movie Game Jam compilation video series, if you’d like to check it out! :)

Perfectly captures the scene in a cool retro pico-8 fashion, great job!

Developer

Thanks a lot - much appreciated! :D

P.S. - I just watched your 2017 Jam highlights video - you had a GREAT year making games, congrats! ;o)

(+1)

Thanks :D hoping to have great fun this year as well.

Been following your twitter feed and I can't wait to see what other pico-8 concoctions you come up with!

Paul,  this Game is Savage and Deserve a 4 to 5 star review. Let me know when u make more New Games

Developer (2 edits) (+1)

Haha! That was... Savage! :D
Your reviews are always "unique", and this one's no exception! ;o)  #NippleGate
But seriously, thanks for playing - sorry to hear ur still having audio/capture issues.
Laters! :D

Hey Paul, I fixed the audio issues and it works perfectly now. As I say again, Let me know if u have or make more games because they are lit and savage. 😸

Great interpretation of the scene, terrific art style too, well done!

Developer

Hey, thanks a lot for the kind words - much appreciated! :D

Really cool entry, great job on this! Would have quite liked a lunge type attack when attacking while moving forward, so bride doesn't just stop dead in her tracks. Was surprised how I could just keep walking off screen, but was kinda interesting trying to play blind :P

Developer

Hey, thanks! :D
Ooh, the "lunge attack" is a cool idea. May have to see about that one (while I fix the player within the screen bounds!)  ;o)
Thanks again for playing.

Found a little bug - you can stay in the corner and press X as long as you wish (easy win). But overall, it's a really nice visual and music, love it!

Developer

Thanks for the feedback.
Yeah, a few people have mentioned it.  I may do an update, if I get time! ;o)

AWESOME submisson for the Movie Game Jam!! Really captured the scene and music spot on in glorious 8-bit style. I felt badass while playing it, just like Uma Thurman in the movie. I would honestly love to see this expanded on including more fights from the movies. Simple to pick up and play and most importantly fun. 5/5

Developer

Hey, thank you SO much for this review (great thumbnail BTW!)
Really glad you enjoyed it - you'd be surprised how many ppl still haven't seen Kill Bill!
You're not the first to notice the "Feature" of letting the player go off-screen. Might have to do a sneaky update - dunno, I kinda like it catching people out! *Mwahahah*
Anyways, thanks again and stay Awesome! :D

Great execution of a scene!
Colors, music, animations, authentic blood splatters, action - it all fits together quite well.

I wish there were more variety in enemies behavior - smth like a jumping attack or a dash?
Maybe we will see a final boss with her unique weapon in the future update?

Developer

Hey, thanks a lot - much appreciated! :D

Yeah, it gets a bit repetitive doesn't it? Good idea about the different attacks!
The original plan was to have an end of game boss (perhaps Gogo, or even O-Ren), but alas time got the better of me.
Maybe I'll give this a "Director's Cut" upgrade someday...! ;o)

I love it! The only suggestion I have would be to make the player's sword slash hit box a little bigger.

Developer

Thanks for playing (and the feedback)!
Yeah, I should prob extend it a pixel or two.
Thanks again!

Really cool and fun game to play for one of my fav' movie !
And I just love the art !! <3

Nice job ! :)

Developer

Thanks very much for the kind words - much appreciated.
Glad you liked it (and that I didn't ruin one of our fav movies!)
Thanks for playing and reviewing! :D

Well done buddy! That was a nice and very well polished game. Loved how all present characters would wind up fighting you, but would first wait for you to defeat their acolytes, like in most Bond movies, or that Kill Bill scene iirc. Loved the single screen too, and that the game was easy enough to allow a not very perseverant player like me to win after a few trials. :) Nice tunes too!

Developer

Thanks pal, really appreciate it - especially coming from you with your art and composing skillz! :
Yeah, the "queued" fighting made me chuckle when I decided to put it in. Coz like you say, it's in ALL the films and it's SO STUPID - they could kill the protagonist right there and then! #LOL
Thanks again mate  ;o)

excellent! simple yet smart idea and tight execution. congratz :)

Thanks a lot Shoze - much appreciated. :D
Glad you liked it!

Top notch game all around. I've had my revenge, now on to the next game!

Developer(+1)

Thanks a lot - glad you managed to complete the game- I mean, "Have your revenge!" :D

Very cool, matey. Would have been cool to have sfx too, but it's a great take on the scene from the film.

Developer

Thanks a lot pal.  Yeah, ya live & learn - next time! :D

ya did a smashing job. I knew ya would! So, what's next?

I absolutely love this game :)

Developer

Hey, thanks a lot! :D

Hey there, looks like we made the same scene of the same movie hahaha. Great to see another kill bill fan, and also, you made a wonderful game out of it! Congrats!

Nice, feels just like the scene in the movie! As somebody else said I would like to be able to move when attacking - maybe even a lunging attack. Also could use some sound effects. Still, it's a really fun game, and that title screen is super stylish and arcadey!

Developer

Thanks a lot - glad you liked it (and you felt it was close to the movie) :D
Yeah, I'm probably gonna regret not adding SFX - oh well... :o/
Thanks again & for playing!

Hi! Thanks for making this! It's really short but very enjoyable and a good interpretation of the original scene.

The stuff I did not like: No hitting sounds (although the music is really god). Perhaps it would be too much for a jam game but it would be great if the player could jump to the upper platform and hit the baddies there as well.

The stuff that I liked: the music. Really on par with the mood of the game. The blood! Oh the blood flying around is very good. The animations nice, smooth and with great variety.

Finally... the design.

I really appreciated your touch of a quiet tune for the entry screen and then a more upbeat tune for the action as well as the game over tune. Excellent choice of colors there, with the nes-like fade to dark backdrop and red character. I felt the jumping was there only to add different types of slashing. Without any hitting sounds, it was not easy to spot the differences between the different hits. It would make a huge difference and really exploit all the work you had making the excellent hit animations. Also, a couple of platforms would have given some additional meaning to the jumps. The fact that the baddies accumulate on the top platform is a very good design touch, making the player glimpse on what is still to come. However, it did not seem linked with the end of the game... Meaning... There were still baddies there when I finished it. That was strange but Ok. Nonetheless, it was a very good design choice.

Developer

Hey, thanks SO much for the detailed feedback - really appreciated! :D

Fair point for the sound effects - unfortunately, there's a limit on the number of sounds playing at once in PICO-8.
While I *may* have been able to get around this, it was enough to put me off even trying (especially in the limited time period - guess I'm just too lazy! :P ). Still, I agree, they would've made a big difference.

It's a good point about the jumping. I didn't really think that part through (other than being able to jump over baddies to get away). I like your idea of accessing/progressing to the upper floor - maybe  next time!

Thanks again for the great feedback - and for taking the time to give it! :o)

Submitted(+1)

Wow, the art and animations are awesome. I really like the fade out animation at the game over.  I wish you could move while slashing though :P

Developer

Thanks a lot, man - much appreciated  :D
Yeah, I hear ya - but I painted myself into a corner by not splitting out the legs (walking) from the torso (sword swinging) animations.
So I took the easy way out and planted The Bride's feet whenever you attack. *sheepish look*
Thanks again for the feedback - and also for playing! ;o)
