Interesting game idea, however the actual game is pretty boring. Not only there is no tutorial and no visual to show that something is interactible, but also the gameplay is too easy, boring and non cooperative. Placing blocks ANYWHERE does not create any kind of a challenge. Also the jumps feel very floaty, unless this is intended. Also there is a nice tool to figure out platformer character controller feel: https://gmtk.itch.io/platformer-toolkit
Heya! Thanks for the comment, I suppose the word prototype should be made a little clearer on the main page.
But the things you mentioned are in fact factors we were aware of, sadly there just wasn't enough time for our team to produce something more substantial. I hope that we might get to revisit this to add a whole lot more :)
Yes so the builder was actually only supposed to build tiles adjacent to themselves, not anywhere on the screen. However unfortunately none of us use godot as a primary development engine (prior to this jam). Also the game's challenge and cooperation may have been able to be fleshed out more if we got more level designing done. Anyway, long-story-short we basically spent all our time creating the block systems, and we decided a little too late that we needed to scope down for the jam. So yeah, this version isn't super great, but it does work which is a decent achievement. I'm still working on this currently s a side-project, so I will definitely check out that tool you linked. Thanks for giving it a play and sorry about all the missing/incomplete features.
The character sprites look better than anything I could draw, and I think it has potential for a longer game. Maybe if there was some kind of hazards in the levels that you had to work together to get across.
That actually was in works (we even had assets for that), but we didn't manage to implement all of the features programming wise.
Thank you! I wanted the players to have a strong design for the game :)
Wow appreciate the feedback! I have been messing around with the project since the end of the jam. Improving the platforming and adding hazards is a good next step.
