The time constraint issue makes a lot of sense, and I can relate to that. I would double check that you start with the same amount of ammo and hp, since I wad starting levels after dying with just above 0 hp and as much ammo as I had when I died. You might have made it so you start with the same amount of medkits and clip ammo rather than hp and mags.

Sorry if you took my comment the wrong way, though it sounded mostly negative, there was a lot of good things in the game, I just find it easier to tell people about feedback than other stuff,

I'm not sure how the hit indicators weren't more obvious to us, though my friend who played the game shared my original thoughts on this, though we might just both be stupid.

Wanting to keep the game first person makes sense. I think our main issue was not clearly being able to see if we were a spot that would be attacked without looking down the whole time. This point may be a skill issue, but also seems like something that could be implemented somehow. Not sure exactly how.

Edit: See Risk of Rain 2 for third person aiming, it does work.

Didn't say you can't call it a sword, but it seems like other people have also been confused about it being called a sword. You also see the projectile in Terraria due to the 2Dness of the game, whereas in this it looked more like melee particles to me. If there was somewhere stating it shot a projectile, calling it a sword would be fine. Name ideas I thought of while typing this are: Projectile sword, short ranged attack, something gun. They're not great names, but I also only spent about 15 seconds thinking of them.

The game looks really good, it was fun, and it seems like it could have a lot of potential, though I had a few problems with the game:

1. It was unclear when you hit the boss, or when the boss hit the player.

This could be fixed by making a more obvious sound for when the player gets hit and having some sort of screen effect, and making the boss have a health bar instead of a health text box would make it so you see the health bar go down instead of a small number in the bottom of the screen

2. The screen is very cluttered.

This could be fixed by making the game either third person or a top down game. The game seems like it would be much more fitting that way.

3. Calling a projectile weapon a sword doesn't really work.

I thought I had to be right next to the boss in order to hit them with a weapon called a sword, so I did not use it my first run due to the bosses never being within what I thought was melee range. Calling it anything other than a sword would fix this I think.

If these things were fixed, I could say this was one of the best games in the jam, though these three things made it not as good of an experience for me.

Graphics look good, I like the story, and the interpterion of the theme. The game started out pretty fun, though I started to lose interest after not much was changing from level to level. To fix this, you could have different environmental hazards, or have bits of story you get in between levels to keep players interested. I also noticed when you died, it did not reset your ammo, which I think is not intentional. Other than those two things, it is a pretty good entry!

Thanks! That means a lot.

The graphics look great, the gameplay is fun, and it seems fairly polished. I always end up loving the Godot games in jams.

Thanks for playing! I think the cat was one of the best additions I added to the game.

I got down to a final depth of 10 after a few tries, and it was pretty fun! It uses the theme well, it looks great, and it kept my attention long enough to do multiple runs. I think with this being my 6th game jam, I have still yet to find a bad Godot game. I don't know how you Godot devs do it, but keep doing what you're doing.

Thanks for the feedback! I wasn't sure whether the text was too slow or not, but looking at it again, I can see it being too slow. The cursor idea is a great idea! Most of my games hide the cursor, so I hadn't thought of doing that.

Thanks for playing! Glad you liked the destructibles, it took me a while to get them to a point I liked.

Thanks for playing! How do you think the theme implementation is controversial?

Thanks for the feedback! Which rooms were you clipping out of? There's also a load last checkpoint button in the Not Pause menu in case you get stuck outside the map.

I kept trying to play it how my game is played because they both use recoil for movement (at least partially for yours), but yours doesn't have a knife on the back of the player. The guns feel extra juicy, it's really fun, and it's an all round pretty good game.

Thanks for playing!

Game looks pretty good, there is a story, and a dog. I like the dog. Some of the animations felt a little bit messy, though it wasn't too big of an issue.

Fun and simple diving game. It looks good, it isn't too difficult to figure out, and it fits the theme. Would blow up fish with missiles again.

I tried out the downloadable version of the game, and it doesn't seem to work great. The game tends to crash when you click the restart button. I didn't dock any points for this since the WebGL version works fine. Using gravity to get through the levels is a pretty cool feature.

The use of the theme is fairly unique, the concept is cool, and the story seems to be fairly in depth. Overall it's a good submission!

There's so much good stuff to say about this game. The voice acting is great, all the onomatopoeias are great, the gameplay is satisfying, and it's fun! Overall, it's an amazing entry! I also found it cool that there's a working leaderboard, what did you use for that?

The list is already a bit long, so I wouldn't be surprised if you don't get to mine (haven't looked at your game yet, but I'm about to), so here's my rougelite where you play as a cat with a gun on a roomba with a knife, and you use recoil to move. https://itch.io/jam/brackeys-10/rate/2235124

Already played the game, and my comment was mostly about the game and not the game page, but using the paper for the background makes it look 10x better than a standard background with something on the sides. The only suggestion I can come up with is to make the sides loopable so on wider screens it is more seamless (see link since itch doesn't let me send images https://imgur.com/a/lAwqNyz), though not that many people have that wide of monitors, so it isn't that important of a change.

I think this is the first game out of 18 that I've rated that I've given all 5 stars, and it only has 4 ratings?? It has a great gameplay loop, a unique use of the theme, a cool art style and amazing sound/music. 10/10 would ponder the onion again.

Here's my rougelike with a cat on a roomba  https://fish-slap-guy.itch.io/my-cat-from-heck

The graphics look really good, but that's about all there is. I fell off the edge of map while exploring and there wasn't very much to do. Game jam games are certainly difficult to finish in time, but getting something submitted is an achievement in itself!

For those who don't know what each of the symbols mean, see images on this page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Logic_gate

Although I feel it isn't that fitting for the theme, this is an impressive little simulator. I can't imagine getting this to work was easy.

This game is definitely a difficult one. It looks great, has a cool concept, though it could use a little bit more work in terms of movement.

The concept behind the game is great, love how you have to manage everything at once in order not to crash, and it taught me a new word. Only issue I saw was that the fade to black screen didn't cover the edges of my ultrawide monitor (21:9), but that happens in most games, so it wasn't an issue. Overall, this is a great entry!

As the one and only FISH SLAP Guy, the one who slaps fish, I approve of this game about fish. Anyways, the graphics are beautiful, the concept and use of theme is great, and the game is good overall. I am terrible at platformers, so I was unable to get too far down the well, though I was impressed with what I saw.

That was the issue. In the game it showed it in all caps, so I wasn't sure where to put them. I replayed it but with the correct Nothing, and got the ending.

What a cute fishing game! The different upgrades kept me casting over and over, just so I could get a little more money. The fishes were very fish like. On a more serious note, the graphics were great, the usage of the theme was superb, and your game page looks amazing! The story definitely kept me hooked to the end.

Weird, I tried that and it didn't seem to work. I might have gotten the capital letters incorrect.

I only saw one squirrel under the sea! Graphics look good, I like the concept behind the game and I didn't find any bugs. The only feedback I have is that there should be more oxygen tanks (or make the base refill your oxygen on delivering bolts) and the wiring minigame felt a little finicky since there was no indication when you click on something, though it was not that big of an issue.  Overall it was a good entry!

Great looking graphics, fun gameplay, and good use of the theme. The recoil often got me killed, but once I got used to it, I started using it for my own benefit. The furthest I got was 10 gems. Overall a good entry!

Looks amazing, sounds great, and I want more. Give us more pickles!

The programming part of the game was really cool, I liked how the main character looks, and it is a cool interpretation of the theme. The platforming was a bit difficult, and I got stuck on the puzzle that said to type "NOTHING", though I think that was the end of the game. Overall, it was a good entry!

First off, that is a juicy gun, I tried making something like that, but couldn't get it quiet that juicy. Next up, the voice acting... I love it! The little, "meow!" as they get hit and die is adorable. I only made it up to 47 points, though with slightly improved controls, I think it would be easier to get further. I think the issue with the movement is that the tiles are at a 45 degree angle, but you move with regular up-down left-right movement, so changing up to be 45 degrees should fix that issue. Overall, great entry!

FISH SLAP Guy approves of your game about fish. Anyways, the characters were cute, graphics looked good, and you did a great job at using the assets you downloaded. One suggestion for future projects, since I also used to use MixKit for my sounds, I found Pixabay has lots more sounds of similar quality, but if you can find what you need on MixKit, go for it!

An excellent use of the theme with a very good looking Smoothie.

Great graphics, well designed and it was fun! I only found one (maybe?) bug, where if you shot, then moved to a different room, the bullet wouldn't get destroyed, and you could activate the yellow switch to get the rockets without using the blue portals. Overall, it's a good entry!

That was a fun short game, what do you mean I spent 30 minutes playing it? Anyways, it's really fun, a good interpretation to the theme, and it was hard to stop playing. I only ended up getting down to 414 tiles deep, so I didn't find what was at the bottom, but maybe next time I will!
