Damn, your game is actually really cool! I see what you've been going for and you've done it very nice, especially the graphics. My only recommendation would be to have more sound effects :)

Developer

Thanks for your feedback man! We're thankful you have such a nice opinion of our game. I tried yours, it was also very fun!

I love the polished menus and UI. The graphics and gameplay reminds me of the browser flash games I used to play. Hitting enemies would be more satisfying if it had a punchy sound effect to go with it, but even without it, the visual feedback was alright. The powerups each had a cool effect. There's not much I dislike, just that it needs more, maybe more locations and more enemy types with different move sets. Overall a nice entry.

Developer

Thank you so much for your kind words, we appreciate the feedback!
We definitely wanted to include more content, but sadly time was not on our side. Hopefully that's something we can remedy in the future!

Ok. First things first, an advice for a unity developer not using Web Builds. Way more people play web builds, than downloads. So click those build options, and make web builds!

Now for the game. I liked it! Graphics and music was alright. The feedback on getting hit, and hitting enemies was clear. The controls were really good (points for having keyboard and gamepad version) and responsive.

I especially liked the number of different powerups. Each affected the gameplay in a different way, so that's cool!

I'd like to see it more than a wave beat-em-up, with proper levels, different backgrounds, and, dare I say it, a boss at some point!

Also some result screen would be nice. Like "you defeated this many baddies, survived that many waves, collected this many glasses".

Developer (1 edit)

Thanks for your feedback!

The original plan was to do a target of 10 waves followed by an end screen, and include platforming and tutorials as well. Perhaps even a boss! But there's only so much high quality, smoothly animated art you can make in 2 weeks, unfortunately.
We scrapped platforming and tutorials despite having their assets due to issues in our development/coding part of the game where there were lots of issues with AI. Therefore, we went for a more "well executed, less content" approach.

Consider a post jam update- what you managed to do was really well executed indeed!

Nice graphics! Love the art style. Good job

Developer

Thank you kindly!

Superb graphics! The glasses look so sick I kinda want to have them IRL or something :D

I like how closely you kept with the theme and provided a nice twist with the abilities

Developer

Glad to hear it! I tried to make the glasses look as unique as possible xD

Colors are sweet on the eye no need for glasses looking at your game :) I wish you made some way to import more movement into the game something like platforms and to keep me in place of fight more I was all over the place and I would use a bit less buttons for controls its easier for player to have few buttons that does more then to need to memorize all thing you need to do. For example I would just make it to shoot laser if you hit some combo count instead pressing button. Don't get me wrong game is cool and fun just wanted to give some edvice to help you!

Developer(+1)

Thanks for the input! Actually there are art assets that were ready and finished but sadly didn't make it to the final cut of the game due to AI issues encountered by our programming and development team. Unfortunately we had to scrap them since we didn't have much time left for submission :(

Submitted(+1)

Feel you bro! I scraped so much things because of time, ahh the AI for this type of game really pain in the ass I worked on enemy like 35% of the time.

Submitted(+1)

really cool game! the ranged fireball shooters are OP though. other enemies can be killed by spamming punch but those guys kill me everytime!!! amazing art and sfx too! love the pixel art style!

Developer

Glad you liked it dude! Yeah the ranged enemies are by far the most irritating xD So pro tip: Use your dash. It gives you i-frames and also absorbs projectiles!

Submitted(+1)

I love the graphics, retro color palette, and the gameplay. The VFX are also cool! Great job!

Developer(+1)

Thanks a lot! Everything you see is original content, no assets used to ensure total visual homogeneity in the end product :D

This game is so cool. Nice work! The design of those glasses is very remarkable. Is this any easter egg in this calendar? :D The marked cell is summer vacation start isn't it? :v The graphics is really cool, music feel good, the sound effect of punching people a little weak, it like getting a punch but not throwing one :v I really love how your character running like Usain Bolt and the feeling of punching a bunch of bast*rd is really good. Effect of the glasses is interesting, playful, I love it.

Developer(+1)

Ah, I'm glad someone noticed that! xD I've put a couple of easter eggs here and there around the level and in the main menu (very obvious pepe). I tried to make each pair of glasses look unique and different, and the animations feel as smooth as possible to the player's eyes.
And yes, the music tracks are both certified bangers, our audio director went all out on that! The bit about having "landing punch sfx" is possibly our most repeated critique! We'll make sure to include it in future projects!
I'm very glad you enjoyed our game! Thank you :D

Loving the artstyle! It looks really good. I feel like it would be even better if it was rendered at a lower resolution to make the pixel size more consistent, but Unity hates pixel art and makes it super hard to setup.

I also really like the use of the glasses, it fits super well into the game and the abilities are super fun to use (also the animations are great).

It's a bit of a bummer that the game is download only, as I feel like less people will get to play it because of it.

But anyways, great presentation, great job!

Developer

Glad you like the game man! Believe it or not, the visuals of the game all share a 32-bit art style, and our developer did his best to translate that in Unity.
Granted, one UI element was acting especially strange during implementation, but as far as I'm concerned the in-game assets all use a similar visual style, with the single exception being the dithered evening sky (cause who doesn't love a dithered evening sky)

Submitted

I was actually referring to the UI yeah! But that's really Unity's fault
