I like the idea you have for this game. It was confusing at first to know if I did something wrong or not because of the lack of feedback like sounds or animations, and of course, you can't restart after winning or losing, but you have the core gameplay loop down, and the game has potential!
It is a bit short but I cannot deny, this is a really interesting concept. It's like... horny prop hunt. I could see a full game being made like this. Good job.
I love the looks of it, has a really nice charm :) I really wanted to try a similar aesthetics some time ago, and I see it can just work. Really nice and fitting soundtrack, quite engaging egg hunt process :) Some runs are too easy, others are actually quite challenging.
I guess no point in mentioning a few obvious things, but one that might be useful: more clear win/lose state could help a lot. I believe that finding the object in hints results in win, and failing to find it - in losing (even after winning). And of course a way to restart the game from inside could also be very cool :) At least once I’ve gotten a “blank space” between hints - I wonder if I’ve missed some egg (though I double-checked all corners, I’m sleepy and can be inattentive) or can it happen normally, or might that be a bug (egg spawned outside of gameplay area)?
Finally after around a dozen runs got windows :)
Sorry it made you run around like that.
The spaces are indeed a bug. All of the clues are phrases that can be applied to at least three (ore more) different objects. I rushed the implementation of the 'Bonus Clue' which is a distinguishing phrase unique to the occupied object. It's some hacky last minute code I wrote that lead to those spaces somehow. ( I still don't know how actually :p )
If it's any consolation to the confusion I caused you, All of the eggs are pre-placed and just made visible / invisible when the game starts. If you weren't seeing any more, there were no more to be found. That's my bad, I really should have paid more attention to the experience a fresh pair of eyes would have had and actually indicate things with more cues, like upon finding all eggs for example.
As for the correct item randomization, It's possible to get any of 16 furnishings selected, however I've also experienced a bias, with some objects being selected much more commonly (though, this could simply be how RNG works). I'll have to look into that some more. Most of my runs happened to be Dinner Table / Bed / Bookshelves.
It’s all good! For me it was wardrobe, armchair and coach that happened almost every second run :) Note that if you don’t have to restart the game after every run (or even if restarting, but saving it in PlayerPrefs) you can simply have a “shuffled List” (I believe in C# it would be System.Random.Shuffle(List)) - this way you guarantee random, but non-repeating sequence.
Thanks for the advice🙀!!
I've actually never touched player prefs, saving game data just scares me for some reason. I'll have to do it at some point though, better sooner than later.
PlayerPrefs is absolutely easy. Just call PlayerPrefs.SetString(“key”, YourSaveData); PlayerPrefs.Save(); and then load by PlayerPrefs.GetString(“key”);. However, note that PlayerPrefs on Windows goes into Windows registry, so not a very good idea overall :) - it’s much better (but slightly harder) to make a custom save system with file saved in Application.persistentDataPath and file written/read by System.IO.File.WriteAllText/System.IO.File.ReadAllText. There’s of course some hassle to “serialize” the save state (and game settings) into a string - but this is a different topic :)
Wonderful models and unique presentation.
A few soundqueues and maybe a small effect to show that clicking the wrong furniture reduces your time would have been nice and a quit / restart option. But overall a short and fun experience.
I think you just need a restart button to complete the gameloop as right now the only thing to do is to force quit and restart the game. Of course some sounds would be good too but I really like the model! Did you model that yourself? What an awesome 3D model that works so well with the grayscale setting it makes it super unique and it was the first game that caught my eye in the jam. Selecting the wrong place causes the timer to drop but selecting the right place allows you to bang her totally nude correct? Im not sure if I was hitting the win screen or the fail screen because I got to see the animations either way. Dope!
Thanks my guy! 😆
Yus, that's exactly how it works. I should've added some more audiovisual elements to help give that perception.
I'd initially planned to have a reward / punishment animation for every piece of furniture, but by the time I got done fixing my models and everything else I was on the last 6 hours with half of the code done.
Never typed so fast in my life. 😭
Maybe I'll come back to it and fix it and expand, but right now, I'm tired 😅 Don't think I'll touch it until after the rating period is over.
Good use of the theme! first 3 times I thought punishment is a win screen, but after i collected eggs finally got how to win. Nice witch model!
Thank you! 😊
I wanted her to look like a mix between Helen (🦸🏽♀️Incredibles mom 🤱🏽) and Marceline ( 🗡️Adventure Time Vampire 🧛🏻♀️ )
well done for a short time jam!
this one is alright, it shows it was rushed but it works
Thanks Man!
I'm taking it as learning experience.
