I heard this was super difficult, and the rumours were not wrong! Great concept though. I particularly like the 3d effect of the drone. Did you consider adding mouse controls? Also, if you are thinking of expanding this further, consider whether you could move to a 3d perspective; eg, do you remember Virus/Zarch on the Archimedes :)
Tnx for checking the game out. I guess I have an advantage in playing this not only because I made it but of my drone piloting skills 😁
Yes I have considered the 3d, and it is in my ever growing todo list lol. That would be a much better solution than the warping decal that it uses now. Tnx for the tip tho. :)
Looks like fun games (virus/Zarch) :) Never played them myself.
Impressive game mechanics and idea. Playability needs to be tuned, to be playable for more than a few minutes. It has a grind that I found a bit too high for a game jam entry. But grinds also increase the happiness of success.
In my first two trials, I couldn't even dock on any cargos, and in my later trials I could score a few drops, so it's playable (if you are somewhat skilled, and patient).
I guess, with a bit easier altitude control, playability may increase.
Very unforgiving - but in a good way. The controls a physics are consistent and there is no hand holding - so it feels more like a simulation style arcade game where the the mistakes are the responsibility of the person pressing the buttons. I wasn't very good at it, but I feel that making it 'easier' through automation would miss the point. It's like manually docking rather than pressing a button to do it for you.
I actually like the retro look of the quadcopter represented by circles and a square. I think that leaning into this type of aesthetic (maybe modernised slightly) would make the game stand out and be more unique than the use of pixel art and sprites.
Nice game!
Brilliant work well done
It was easier than controlling a real drone! At least the non-computer-stabalized ones.
Agree, real drones in manual (acro) mode was a pain in the beginning. I wonder if a real drone controller in joystick mode would be fun in this game 🤔
Tnx for checking this out :)
Been wanting to try since it popped up in discord on the first day. It's a novel idea and I loved the controls. Pretty hard to get used to but make sense. I used keyboard controls to make it easy for myself. It's a good game, and the sound effects for picking and dropping items were funny. Reminded me of a convenience store for some reason.
Thank you :)
(I use kb controls myself)
Very hard controls to comprehend, the idea is there though. Need to retry this at some time again. :D
Centre the mouse on the drone and use kb if that is easier ;) It's like flying a drone, you push the stick forward "W" and the drone tilts forward, you then have to increase throttle for not loosing altitude, that angle will generate thrust forward, if you tilt it too much then there is not enough throttle to keep it from falling. It's a balancing game. And you can toggle the Autolevel function by pressing SPACE. It's more fun flying without when you get the hang of it :-D Thanks for playing.
these mouse controls will haunt me forever, never understood why would the drone fly to the bottom right. overall amazing concept. game over screen even better
Yea, the mouse control was a last minute hack. Thank you for your kindness. :)
Nice! It was very confusing at first, especially until I realized how much easier keyboard controls are compared to the mouse controls. Never played with drone controls before so that was interesting :D
Tnx, the mouse controls was a dirty hack an hour before jam timeout so it could use some refinements :-D I use kb controls myself, autoleveling off until i'm on top of the orb, then I turn it on and descend on top of'em ;)
