Damn, this has a lot of Ren'Py polish! The phone interface was even fancier, I have no idea how that works. Time to take notes.

The "protagonist left out of Protagonist Things" concept isn't something you see a whole lot and it was real neat to add the layers of a strained sibling relationship and a developing romance around someone between that indirect opposition. I quickly found myself thinking about the logistics of that whole magical girl situation and how relatable a lot of the dialogue was really sold it. Not to mention the art!! High production value overall and it really earned the juice.

Hey, thanks!! The phone UI is worked from a little bit of coding that you can find in the asset library here on Itch! :) https://nighten.itch.io/yet-another-phone-renpy  It took a bit of fiddling around so it's worth following a couple of tutorials on yt to get a feel for it!

I really love the 'ordinary protagonist surrounded by all kinds of buckwild situations' trope, especially when they're blase about it, which is where this idea came from hahaha. I really want to flesh out the complicated dynamics between the twins, love interest and other teammates more in a finished game, so I'm glad you enjoyed it!!

it is very pretty! i like the bros (girls) and the rumors were right ivy is MEAN

although i wouldnt know that for sure unless i played multiple times with all the choices because wouldja look at that multiple paths in a jam game: super cool

hoping this game keeps going because now i simply gotta know

Developer

Thank you so much!! :) Ivy is your classic MEAN GIRL right now but with the full release she may just mellow out or at least have her motivations explained further...

I definitely have plans to continue the game, especially with the positive response it's gotten here on itch! Thanks for hosting the jam, it's been really fun :D

It was a solid experience and felt very pro. Good job!

Thank you so much! I'm glad you enjoyed it :D

Like someone said, it's clean.

More than decent art, coherent artstyle.

I like the shirt of Cy (important).

Enjoyed the Honey scene in the kitchen, it was smooth.

The "poking the magical girl trope" falls a little flat.

Poking is not enough, it's too expectable. It's not spicy enough.

In my opinion anyway. Not showing any magical girl transformed in a magical girl VN is cool though, leaves room for imagination and the protagonist not being a magical girl is cool too.

The end is kinda abrupt but it's to be expected in a one week jam. There's already a lot of work in this and it shows.

Has a good Juice and lacks some Guts.

Thanks so much for the feedback!

I definitely agree, I went a little too hard on telling-not-showing when it came to the magical girl elements. Ideally I wanted to weave the tropes into the story much more organically (have finished sprites for ALL of the girls on the team and show them as a fleshed out team, have a longer intro to explain the team's backstory, show more through Cy's internet browsing etc) but unfortunately doing this jam 100% by myself and with a full time job, the exposition just ended up very ham-fisted through dialogue instead because I ran out of time to do all that I wanted. Definitely something I'm planning to improve on in the future!

I'm glad you like the ambiguity of not seeing the girls transformed! I do plan to show their magical girl attire in the full finished version of the game, again it was just down to time constraints. Not showing their transformed alter-egos yet was a worry I had when it came to submitting this demo, so I'm actually relieved to hear that you liked that aspect. ^^

Thanks for the rating and review! :)

Oh man, that latter half gave me butterflies even when I should have 0 investment in this. The phone interface is a nice touch.

Developer

I'm so glad!! That's the ultimate compliment tbh, I'm so happy this short piece of the story was still able to evoke some feelings from you :D I hope to bring out even more butterflies and emotions with a completed version!

Just one word: clean. The title screen, the character art, the UI, the music choice. You had me rooting for Cypress by the time this little demo ended!

I can see it become a full short game. You got some solid basis.

Developer

Thank you so much, that means a lot!! I think maybe I went a little too hard on perfecting the gui so if I did this again I'd def try and put a bit more storytelling in but I'm glad it paid off! <3

I'm happy you're rooting for Cypress!! I definitely want to keep working on the game because I had so much fun with the jam ^^
