Description
PLEASE IGNORE THE RETROGRADE BRIGADE STUFF. IT IS FROM A PREVIOUS GAME JAM, AND I DIDN'T KNOW HOW TO MAKE A NEW PROJECT. THIS OST IS COMPLETELY UNRELATED TO RETROGRADE BRIGADE.
-------------------------------------------------------------
tracklist:
the running [orchestral-synth-awesome_bass_guitar]
the rare pocket of relief [slow jazz]
the attempt at sleep [wannabe-lofi/sorta-orchestral/circus-music*]
the future they'll never meet [funk with buzzy bass that goes wub-wub]
*you'll see what I mean by circus music lol
I used FL Studio to compose these tracks, and kept them shorter as I figured they would be loop-able for use in a video game and because I only had so much time to work on this.
What the tracks represent:
"the running" throws the player straight into the action, as you've been sighted by the police. You are now running to preserve your freedom.
When "the rare pocket of relief" comes in, you find a tavern/inn. You walk in, and a live band starts to play a jazz performance. You relax for a moment.
The person behind the counter notices that you're new, and you strike up a conversation with them. They offer you a place to sleep. "the attempt at sleep" would play while the character is thinking out loud, failing to drown out their emotions.
The character contemplates "the future they'll never meet" with a surprisingly upbeat tune. But deep down they know that they got lucky this time.
Message from the artist:
The OST for a very short, imaginary episodic about a kid running from the authorities.
Theme:
How does it fit the theme?
The different tracks on the OST are made to emulate the scenes and communicate the feelings of the character in those specific situations. For example: The character is running from the police, so a siren-like sound has been added to "the running".
Additionally each track is named for the potential "stages" of running away: the actual running away, the moment of calm when you've shaken their tail and the quiet refuge somewhere unfamiliar, the difficulty of trying to sleep when your emotions are holding you hostage, and the forced optimism when contemplating your future.

Second track is so nice, love the jazzy bar vibes.
hahaha. likely the most quirky and creative soundtrack I have discovered here so far. that section where you hear restaurant noise was hilarious! Made my day. Thanks!
Interesting and creative soundtrack, love the dissonances! Good work!
I kind of agree with FoxHyode, some tracks did sound quite dissonant (heard mostly in the running and the rare pocket of relief) which needs to be what you need to work on, I don't have much musical knowledge so I won't tell too much.
But I really liked the attempt at sleep and the future they'll never meet, especially the "Lo-fi" drums and synths. Very chill and fits with ur description.
And btw, in future OST jams, u can submit a soundtrack on itch.io instead of submitting it with ur game, u can see in Lone Rabbit's Website which u can find in their itch profile/page thing. This one https://ostcompjam.alonerabbit.com/how-to-submit
Just so there would be no confusion or complications.
All right I will be fully honest, the compositions are not that great, lots of place for improvement, couple of places it feels pretty dissonant unless its was intentional but I don't think so, watch out for the harmony and melody working together. Unique way of implementing sound design especially foley into the track not as an instrument but an actual asset. There is some good idea just not well developed I feel. Drum patterns out of place with the melody and overall song stuff like that to look. Keep it up.
Enjoyed the sounds of these tracks, The Rare Pocket of Relief would easily fit into background of Monkey Island. Great work!
hey thank you so much, yeah I have a soft spot for jazz tracks
