Description
A getaway towards the unknown. One can only wonder what the forest contains...

Theme:

Runaway
Picture theme

How does it fit the theme?
It follows an adventurer on a getaway, running away from the familiarities of the city into the unknown of the woods, unknowing of what they may encounter. Leaned into both the forest image, as well as the Runaway title theme.

It's very

adventure-y feeling

and it fits the theme pretty well in my opinion

it's like you are lost in a foreign world that is yet very familiar to the one you know

Your tracks are all very different and yet come together really nicely into a cohesive whole, really well done.

Thank you!!

Hi and thank you for your submission! Here are my impression and what I picture for the tracks! :D

Skip and Hop felt wholesome and light, a great introduction for the adventure!

Whisper of the forest: it has begun, you're almost in! Sounds like a secure tutorial environment, friendly yet a bit challenging. Loved all the sounds you introduced there!

Deep Woods has a very different mood and setting. Is that a villain showing up? A strange thing appearing in the Deep Woods? Great ambience though!

Guardian of the Oak: the first boss? Clearly we can see that the protector of the forest emerges :D

Runaway: another tone, feels like something unsettling approaches! Is it really a "safe unknown" ? :o

Skip and Hop: This track has a rich warm sound to it and is balanced well with the broad bass with the sprinkle of glockenspiel in the high range. I also like the imagery of the title in the beat of low-high-high which feels like skipping.

Whisper of the Forest: The subtle voice in the background adds so much whimsy to this track. The pan flute (I think?) with the blowing effect gives the sense of whispering. This forest feels like it has a lot to say.

Deep Woods: I love the dark-ward shift of this track. I feel like I could listen to this loop for a long time!

Guardian of the Oak: This track is very uplifting. The clavinet lead fits so well here! Having the voice return ties this track into your forest track making it feel very cohesive. I love the deception in your chord progression for this one as it feels like it’s going major and then takes a minor turn. This is a fun track!

Runaway: The glockenspiel arpeggio is what makes this feel like a runaway track for sure. The ascending progression also makes it feel like there is a heightening sense of tension or adrenaline which is another cool characteristic that adds to the theme.

Overall: While these tracks are short, you pack a lot of substance into them that gives both imagery and story-telling characteristics. Overall, well done and thank you for sharing!

I like Guardian Of The Oak a lot! I feel like if strings joined into the melody in the second verse it would add a lot of epicness aha.

Developer(+1)

Thank you! Was considering using a violin for the main melody.

Your sense of harmony is very rich, and each track was a joy to listen to... as they say in Iceland: "Vel gert!"

Developer

Thanks!

Great vibe. I like the drum loops behind it. The melodies are really soft and fit very well with the theme. Well done!

I love how varied each track is! They’re all unique, but with a thread that weaves through all of them! My favorite is “Guardian of the Oak,” it has a really fun melody with an interesting chord progression under it! “Runaway” is a close second. Great job!

Developer

Thank you! Had fun putting those chords together

I love how the vibe varies between pieces in the album! I can see the story. Also, I liked the atmosphere of Whisper Of The Forest. Well done!

There’s a really cool feeling here of a classic 2D platformer. I particularly like Deep Woods (great hip hop beat—or correct me if I’m wrong; that’s not my genre) and Guardian of the Oak (love the bass, and the left-and-right panning on the accompaniment).

Developer(+1)

Thank you! Yeah, the drums were inspired by hip-hop and lo-fi.

Guardian of the oak was great! well done! each has it's own unique ID but still feel connected. Good job!

Developer

I really appreciate it!

This throws me back to old Motoi Sakuraba works, especially the choirs on "Whisper of the Forest", they remind me of Valkyrie Profile's OST. Also you manage to tell a compelling story with so few elements, keeping it simple and tidy. Would love a medley track.

Developer

Thanks! Motoi Sakuraba is my favorite composer, glad to hear it shows in my music!

Really nice atmosphere you created with the first three songs, and then Guardian Of The Oak was a real treat! Loved the driving kick and the melody playing over that energetic chord progression. And then when the vocals came in it was chef excellence. So fun!

Developer

Thank you! Really had fun working on that one.

I thought it was an overall great OST. I very much like your take on the picture theme and word theme. I liked all the tracks because they all had a wonderful charm of their own. I just wish they were longer, I wanted to hear more :) Great job.

Developer(+1)

Thank you! I try to keep the length down for OST Jams but I'll probably go back and develop them more.

I'm very amused how we both have a similar take about the deep woods but with a different style. Love how efficient the drum works! It really emphasizes a game soundtrack aspect imo.

I also loved how you deviated from predictable harmonisations surprise on some harmonisations as well!

Developer

Noticed that similarity too haha! And my favorite part is trying to pick unique chord choices!

Whisper of the forest has such a good melody! The rest is lovely too and quite diverse, nice job!

Guardian of the Oak is lovely, nice melody and alterations between percussive moments vs airy ones :)

There are some really creative chord choices, progressions, and a really smooth key change right at the beginning. Very nice!

Developer (1 edit)

Thank you!! My favorite part is always putting together a unique progression.
